When I was in the classroom teaching Physics this was an outstanding movie to show. It has so many wonderful applications of physics and chemistry principles.
I have seen this over 40 times and I still watch every scene.

Godfather, Apollo 13 and Independence Day are in my top ten but I think the top spot is The Stand although it was a made-for-TV thing. Not so much for the Good vs. Evil backdrop but for the sheer imagination of what it would be like if you were suddenly alone in the world.
I cry every time I watch Apollo 13 because I’m afraid they won’t make it back. (That scene where the son is in military school and looks at the clock and realizes that radio contact should have been re-established already GETS ME EVERY TIME.)
Last March I got to meet the commander of Apollo 13, Captain James Lovell. We were in Washington DC, where it was announced that the new hospital at Great Lakes Naval Station will be named for him.
Tell The ICC “NO WAY” to Ameren’s Proposed Rate Increase!!
Ameren is back at the trough again — filing a formal request with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) for a $226 million rate increase that will raise YOUR electric and natural gas rates.
AARP is urging you to contact the ICC and say “NO WAY!” to Ameren’s request.
Less than a year ago, Ameren was granted a $162 million dollar increase.
Now, they’re asking for a $226 million annual increase in service charges — a huge burden for consumers already struggling with rising utility bills in a tough economy.
We need YOU to contact the ICC and oppose the rate increase!
SO, WHAT CAN YOU DO?
–Attend the ICC Public Hearing and voice your concern over the proposed rate increase!

Shawshank is good choice, but I will go with Miller’s Crossing.

I like my movies funny, frivolous and meaningless. So It’s a Mad Mad, Mad Mad World is my favorite.
Dramas: Godfather Numero Uno, Usual Suspects, Shawshank Redemption, Unforgiven, Training Day.
Comedies: Dodgeball, Something About Mary, 40-Year-Old Virgin.
As of last night, I might have to add Gran Torino.
