Gene’s Dairy Dream, 2411 N. University St., is for sale. This is (was) one of my favorite ice cream stands. It’s right on the way to/from work/church, and a great place to go with the kids. I have no idea why it closed, but I hope someone else opens it back up soon.

No Genes, No Lonnie’s…what’s the world coming to?
Anyone know why the sale right at the start of the season?
I believe it was for sale last year also.
Possibly. I know they were open for business all last season, though.
This is an excellent location for a payday loan store, especially as University in this area seems to be lacking one.
Some friends of ours actually owned it before the current owners took over. It’s really a lot of work.
PeoriaIllinoisan, thats not funny, no more payday loan places…I’d rather have a crackhouse. I heard it may have closed because of the way the power was routed and it always went out, making food go bad. Too many times…they were always working on it.
We were also bummed about this. No Lonnies, Gene’s and I believe the Dairy Barn on Farmington is also closed! Looks like we will have to make the trek to Emo’s!
Dobbie’s – on the 4 way stop on rt 150 in Kickapoo. Really cheap prices, high quality and large portions. The hot fudge sundae for $2.00 is superb. You won’t want the large at just $2.50 either.
The only time I’m in Kickapoo is when I need Reid to service my van, but I’ll keep it in mind.
Theo’s at Gale and Sterling. Everyone forgets that place.
For a long time I thought Theo’s was
“The O’s.”
Let’s just hope Emo’s sticks around.

Don’t forget about The Shack– Ice Cream Shack on Adams- great ice cream, great price, a little busy at times but worth it.
Julie: It was Lonnie’s Dairy Barn on Farmington Rd. Both are the same place unless you know of another place on Farmington Rd.
Jennifer: The O’s??? That is funny. Are you blonde?
the Ice Cream Shack…mmmm….chili cheese Polish sausage. Ok, just because I cook “all gourmet”, doesn’t mean I eat that way 🙂
How about the “Spotted Cow” on Glen near Sheridan? Have had the best ice cream in town for years-also has variety of sandwiches too.
After living above the Oberlander building next door for several years, I can say the clientele and neighboorhood may have had something to do with it.
Shootings and robberies at the gas station, loud subwoofer base stereos, etc.
It’s not a good neighborhood to be in.
