I received this e-mail from the city today:
City Manager Randy Oliver will be holding a news conference today (1/16) at 3:00 p.m. in his office.
What do you think this is about? I got an anonymous tip last night that Randy resigned yesterday effective immediately. However, when I e-mailed Randy about it, he told me he is still with the City of Peoria. And, of course, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding him selling his house and a report in the Dallas newspaper that he was a finalist for a city manager job in McKinney, Texas. Throughout it all, he’s steadfastly denied that he’s looking for another job, interviewing anywhere else, or making any plans to leave Peoria.
Maybe this press conference isn’t about any of that. But I can’t imagine what else it would be.
UPDATE: Jonathan Ahl reports that Oliver is in fact resigning.
UPDATE 2: I got another e-mail from the city: “The News Conference has been moved to Council Chambers at 3:00 today instead of the City Manager’s Office.”
He was still with the city of Peoria….until when?
Maybe the city of Peoria is bailing out\buying WTVP. I wouldn’t think it would come from his office, but in the wacky world of Peoria, stranger things have happened.
City Hall sources confirm he he resigning.
If Oliver is resigning it will be a sad day for Peoria. I listened to last nights meeting and I would have resigned after listening to one council person ramble on for hours. I could have turned off the radio but those poor slugs had to sit their and listen. Oliver has done a wonderful job and I hope he is here for a long, long time.
I agree, Randy had been the best city manager we have had in a long, long time.
Considering the personnel he is dealing with do you blame him if he is looking elsewhere? You can only beat your head against the wall just so long and it dawns on you that you are making dents in your own head and not the wall.
Well, with his half-truths and outright lying about his job status, I think he has a bright future as a politician, no matter where he ends up at.
humm prego you do let your employer know when you’re going for a job interview. Geez.
This is truly a GREAT day for the city of Peoria! Please, tell me at least 1 thing he accomplished during his time as city manager….(enter cricket noises here). This city has not had a decent manager since Jim Daken. Now if they can find somebody that would MANAGE the city and work WITH it’s biggest employer that would be a great step forward.
Billdozer, you might want to spend time on this site (www.dsausa.org/dsa.html) and stop wasting electrons here.
bulldozer, you have a real positive attitude. The kind that keeps Peoria back. Wish you knew what you were talking about.
pdw… ever heard of “no comment”? Ever heard of… not lying? Ever heard of… fessing up when you’re caught in a lie?
Oh, that’s okay, right? EVERYONE should lie when they’re in this situation.
Wrong, pordner. “No comment” works just fine.
Prego’s right (and it pains me to say it – evern if it is the second time I’ve had to do it:)), it isn’t always necessary to tell the truth, but it’s never necessary to lie…except when your wife asks you how you like her new hair style…I’ve only made that mistake three or four times.
