I don’t have a full list of candidates yet, but I did find out about two new candidates today:
General Parker is running against incumbent Jim Ardis for Mayor. General’s wife Rachael Parker works for the city in the Economic Development department and sits on the Peoria Public Schools Board of Education. Parker was also interested in serving on the Heart of Peoria Commission, but he can’t do that anymore, of course.
Curphy Smith is running against incumbent Barbara Van Auken for the Second District city council seat. Curphy is currently serving on the Traffic Commission.
Also, Gary Shadid will be running against Patrick Nichting for the Peoria City Treasurer position being vacated by the retiring Reginald Willis.
UPDATE: Here’s the Journal Star article with a full list of candidates.
Who is this guy and why did his parents name the poor kid “General”?
Cause they knew he’d run for mayor some day!
Don’t the crimes that General has spent jail time for keep him from being able to run for mayor?
This one’s going to be a squeeker for sure. LMAO!
No one from the ‘oppressed’ Bradley student community. I am disappointed.
Nor do any candidates have “drunken vigilantism” as one of the planks in their platform. I, too, am disappointed.
Well none of the candidates do, just the sitting city council members. Particularly those from the 2nd district. My advice to Mr. Smith would be to get boozed up and patrol around the neighborhood betlittling police officers and taking the law into your own hands. That seems to work for BVA.
Wow. If that’ Ardis’ only competition, this is going to be a boring election…except for all the stupid things Parker is going to say between now and the election.
Maybe Parker should look at running for Governor.
I thought he should run for City Inspector. Then he could be the Inspector General. Ha ha!
(Sorry, General. Couldn’t resist.)
Lookit, General Parker is right for the times.
We have high crime and he is an expert on crime and deeply experienced on the issue. His slogan should be: General Parker…an expert on crime.
Then we will have good synergy between our mayor, new State Representative in the 92nd District and our Governor. Officials at different levels of government with the same expertise and experience who can work together on the most pressing issue.
Teamwork for the people!!!
Based on the election rules referendum which the voters approved in the Nov election, I believe this means that there will have to be a Feb 24th primary election in the 3rd district since more than two candidates have filed (of course the primary would be required only if the necessary number of signatures on each of the three candidates petitions are validated by the Election Commission).
At the moment the will be a primary in the 3rd and 5th districts as three candidates filed in those two districts. people still have until December 26th to file as a write-in candidate which would also trigger a primary.
BTW the election commission doesn’t validate signatures someone has to challenge a signature.
Alright CJ: Now is the perfect time for you to file to be a write-in candidate! 🙂 You have another nine days to trigger a run off in the 2nd District!
Why do you all think having committed a crime makes a person unfit for office? Do you not believe in personal growth? Do you not believe in forgiveness as you prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birth? Obama admitted to having used drugs in his youth. Don’t you think having done that and having grown beyond it makes him a better person? I do, generally, believe that a person’s past behavior is a pretty good indicator of future behavior. But I do not believe that we should define a person by old acts of poor judgment when a person has completely changed his or her life since those acts occurred. But maybe you all have spotless pasts, and, if this is the case, forgive me.
General Parker is a good guy. I like him a lot. However, I think Mayor Ardis is doing a great job and should serve another term.
I would like to see General continue his advocacy on behalf of District 150 students.
It is good to know that the public information system still works and that there is still a positive political force that is backed by citizens of Illinois. Now, with all the bad business that we are getting with the Governor why would we want to add to it. I have to ask this question concerning General Parker (nothing against his wife who has done an excellent job), but what about Federal crimes outside of Illinois, like California, Missouri and using Alias’s. Now, I don’t mean to put a person on blast but, let’s consider these things before we vote.
