Saturday Morn should be interesting… the rails to trails folks are gonna be there pushing their bike path agenda. They specifically asked about bike routes being part of the charrette.
Yeah, Joyce Blumenshine of the Sierra Club asked about it at the Kick-Off meeting. Three words: One-track mind. Seriously, though, the replacement of rail lines with bike paths isn’t going to make it into a form-based code for the Heart of Peoria.
But that said, I actually think on-street bike routes are a good idea in cities, especially if the streets are designed in such a way that bikers feel safe sharing the street with cars. Bike paths (off-road) would seem to be incompatible with an urban area like the Heart of Peoria, though. That’s more of a suburban thing.
