City to comply with HB3785

You may recall that the State passed HB3785, which says political signs can be displayed on residential property at any time. The law takes effect January 1, 2011, but the City of Peoria will be bringing it sign ordinance into compliance this coming Tuesday. The text amendment leaves intact size restrictions for all political signs, as well as the requirement they be removed from public property and commercial property within seven days after an election. Residential properties are excepted from the post-election removal requirement.

  1. I do hope that part of the regulations and restrictions include that the signs are not posted on private property where they restrict vision of people pulling in and out of driveways. Sometimes they don’t realize that it is too tall or in the wrong position and is blocking the view of those entering traffic. Please be careful. Same with yard sale signs, etc..

  2. What a stupid law. I would think that our lawmakers would have more pressing business than making sure that our communities are junked up with political signs for much longer durations.

Whose bright idea was this to begin with? I’d like to know so that I could send he/she/them a letter or two.
