Ok. This shows that this isn’t a repeat of the Great Depression after all. The Cubs won(I think) 3 pennants during that time.
I may be able to joke about this in a few weeks, but right now is not a good time.
I feel your pain, PI. I seriously considered being sympathetic, but then I read this post. It’s hard to be sympathetic in the face of obnoxious Cubs fans like that.
I just want to know one thing… if the Dodgers get to the WS and by some chance win, will they get the same level of grief that the 2006 Cardinals got for being an also-ran in the regular season. Yes, they won the West but that’s not saying that much. Remember, the 2006 Cardinals were being trashed 10 minutes after they won the series for having hte fewest number of wins. Well, the Dodgers are in that neighborhood with 84 wins.
C.J., I don’t even get that posting by Billy.
There are really no answers or explanations anymore, so here goes: They somehow consistently assemble a team that wilts under pressure.
I’m not even surprised, angry or shocked anymore. It’s just the way it is. Which should now be the Cubs theme song. “The Way It Is” by Bruce Hornsby and the Range.
I’m a Cubs fan, but I still think your image above is hilarious.
It hurts even more getting beat by a guy whose resume includes 11 seasons with the Hiroshima Carp.
The Cubs sucked in the playoffs. Granted, the Dodgers played great. But they didn’t have to.
I suggest that ever single member of the team spend the offseason contemplating their failure.
They won their division TWO YEARS IN A ROW, then didn’t get one single win in the post season.
They shouldn’t even get their bonuses.

“poopy”?
Whatever you say, church boy.
😉
I feel like crap. Can I say CRAP? Silver lining? I pray this is the beginning of a dynasty? Maybe? As long as they don’t go crazy and start selling off players, etc. We [CUBS] have a great foundation to build on for next year. At least we have one more banner to hang from the wall!
I still call myself a Cubs fan, but after the strike of 1994 I never came back to MLB with the same interest and enthusiasm as before. I followed the team this season, but it’s hard for me to have a whole lot more than a passing interest in following greedy pampered and spoiled millionaires playing a game for even greedier owners. I think helping coach my son’s soccer team this year has shown me how watching kids give everything they can for their team and seeing their hard work pay off is far more special than any Cubs World Series victory would ever be. I’ll take players playing for the love of a sport any day over those who care mainly about money.
I do feel awful for Ron Santo though. The man works so hard to help others despite his own physical limitations. He’s put his heart and soul into this team and doesn’t deserve this kind of pain and heartache. I hope he gets to see the Cubs win a World Series in his lifetime because I think he truly deserves it for everything he’s done off the field.
I am a huge Cubs fan, but just can’t understand why they play great baseball all season, but play so horribly in the playoffs. Two years in a row….
You, sir, are outstandingly cruel.
IMHO the last great Cubbie player who played for love of the game was Andre Dawson. Trying to think back, wasn’t he under-appreciated? I don’t think you could top him for dedication.
The team this year that showed up in the post season wasn’t the Cubs — it was a high school team AT BEST. I am a three decades long fan and I’m tired of waiting. I’ll still be a fan but no more high expectations.
