From the Journal Star:
After more than four decades of practicing law, 42 years alone in Peoria providing legal advice to School District 150, the man behind the bow tie [David Walvoord] is retiring.
Oddly, I don’t see anywhere in the article an effective date for Walvoord’s retirement. Is he retiring immediately? Or July 1? Or December 31? I must just be missing it, since that would be a basic bit of information to include in such an article, being one of the five W’s and all. If you find it, please let me know.
It will be interesting to see if the District 150 board simply gets a new attorney from the same law firm now that Walvoord is leaving, or if they will put their legal services out for bid.
Why doesn’t the district have a board secretary? I thought Hinton’s secretary was going to be the new board secretary, but heard she is now over at Roy Ricketts as a secretary. Why wasn’t a new secretary hired for the superintendent before the old one left? Wouldn’t that make sense for training purposes? He certainly opened a couple of cans of worms with his comments in the journal star. As far as lawsuits, I believe the district is involved in some 85 litigations at present. I also thought the comment he made about appearing to be very quiet during board meetings was hilarious….none of the board members as questions….probably because they don’t have the sense to ASK! Wolvoord needed to retire 5 years ago, if he had, I would bet the district wouldn’t be involved in the lawsuits they currently are going to lose.
Isn’t it amazing how people tend to sue District 150 but not other School Districts? So glad he clarified that it’s not him or the crappy legal “advice” he’s given them over the years, or the chronic enabling and cover-up of illegal and unethical conduct that has been the problem. It’s just something about the District itself. Kind of like a giant “SUE ME” sign posted on the door at Wisconsin Avenue. Poor Mr. Walvoord didn’t have a chance against those universal forces. Hope he enjoys his retirement. I think a large part of District 150’s problems have just been solved.
Just a reminder the District Watch group will meet at Monical’s at 6 p.m. this Sunday, July 11 to discuss the board meeting to be held on July 12.
