Great Scott! I knew DSL would be faster, but I really didn’t expect it to be quite this fast.
For those of you my age or older, do you remember the old 1200 baud modems? Remember the first time you upgraded to 2400 baud and how screamin’ fast it was for getting on those direct-dial bulletin boards? That’s kind of what I expected.
This is nothing like that.
No, this is more like going from a rickshaw to a Lamborghini.
And just to raise the “cool” factor even more, I’ve got my wireless router hooked up, so now I can be anywhere in or around the house and access my smokin’ internet connection: porch, kitchen, bedroom, garage — you name it!
I know, this isn’t very exciting for you, you “haves” who’ve been taunting “have-nots” like me lo these many years with your speedy broadband. It’s all old-hat to you. But I don’t care. It’s new to me and I’m not ashamed to admit I’m ecstatic with the improvement over that old 56k modem I’ve been using.
“so now I can be anywhere in or around the house and access my smokin’ internet connection: porch, kitchen, bedroom, garage — you name it!”
You don’t say it, but we ALL KNOW you’re thinking “bathroom.”
I wrote that post in the bathroom.

Nope. I appreciate mine everyday. What I have at home is faster than what we have at work. It is a beautiful thing to just cruise along the net. However, I do miss those cat naps in between waiting for pages to load, though.
I thought 1200baud was lightning fast, after upgrading from 300, and now I hit the refresh button five times if a web site doesn’t come up within 1.25 seconds! How times have changed.
Dear God – how have you waited this long?!? AND you blog!!! My parents still have dial up, but they don’t blog.
I say the same about people who don’t have Tivo (or one of it’s equivalents).
xoxo your local technologically spoiled activist
CJ, would you please provide this wireless connection to all of us? I mean, it would be soooooo neat to be able to use this “wirless” thingy at all sorts of cool places like City Hall…
1200 baud modem?
Piker.
I remember the 300 baud I had with my Apple II+.
DSL is wonderful but cable is even faster. Like rickshaw to space shuttle fast.
Don’t believe it. Emtronics works for the man. DSL is just as good as cable. Much better, in fact, if your cable happens to be provided by the internet slumlords over at Insight.
Wanna bet? and no, I don’t work for the man if the man is Insight. I can prove it. Go here: http://www.dslreports.com/stest and test your connection with DSL. While DSL is fast it no way compares to a Cable connection and anyone who works on computers will tell you this. I used the BroadStar connection in Miami FL. Results: 3954 down and 455 up. and that was at 50% comaptiicity for their site. (traffic) That is on average 20.8% better than any DSL line.
Thanks for the link- I use Insight cable:

That is 22.3% better than an average user on insightbb.com
Your upload speed : 352 kbps or 44 KB/sec.
That is 4.4% better than an average user on insightbb.com
After SBC managed to somehow lose my order for DSL that I placed on the web, I’m stuck with dial-up for a few more agonizing days. Trying to get my DSL properly ordered through SBC was about as easy as setting up a democracy in the middle east.
Too bad Insight wants 3x as much.
Anybody know of a viable 3rd party provider?
DSL on a static IP in Pioneer Park:

Obviously I prefer my Insight Cable.
You get what you pay for. 🙂
