The City Manager reports that the Budget Committee has “requested that an RFP be issued for the sale or lease of the Gateway Building. The RFP will be issued in October with response due in early December.”
This is great news. It’s a pretty building and it looks nice on the riverfront, but it’s certainly not an essential service. The money the city spends on utilities, upkeep, and other expenses for the Gateway building could be better spent elsewhere.
Kudos to the council for being willing to put it up for sale.

– Gee, sounds alot like the museum.
I’d but that for a dollar!

BUY that…
Sell it to the Peoria Park District – they love white elephants.
Bite your tongue, Mister Ed! 🙂
The last thing we need is for it to go to another taxing district. We want to take it off the taxpayers’ backs.
This should be just the first of several sales by the City and other taxing bodies. It’s about time they get started.
Can we get an RFP on the Civic Center?
EP got smart and sold theirs…
That looks like a danged nice school to me.
yeah, that’s the ticket! Get District 150 and the Park District into a bidding war and who knows what the price will be! Design of that building would work well for both Bonnie Noble and Ken Hinton since both love to sit on high and p*ss on their employees! ^oo^~
If they sell it does this mean they (the Council) will repeal the garbage fee????
CJ – Did you really believe I meant that the PPD should buy the Gateway?? I was trying to interject a little humor. Of course it should go private along with many other properties in this community; as well as stopping government from buying private properties such as the Kellar Branch so they can spend untold millions on another white elephant. Seriously though, would you really be surprised if the PPD made a bid on the Gateway Building? Right this minute Bonnie might be mulling this over with her buddies.
Don’t be silly. The PPD won’t buy it from the city; they will lease it for 99 years for a dollar.
No, Mister Ed, I didn’t think you were serious. I just didn’t want you giving the PPD any ideas. They might think it’s a good idea! Heaven help us.
Does anyone know if the city still has any debt payments associated with the actual construction. I know they spend a sizeable chunk of change each year on maintaining the building, but what about the bonds that paid for the construction of the building. Are those completely paid off? or is there a balance?
