For flowers that bloom about our feet,
Father, we thank Thee.
For tender grass so fresh, so sweet,
Father, we thank Thee.
For the song of bird and hum of bee,
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.
For blue of stream and blue of sky,
Father, we thank Thee.
For pleasant shade of branches high,
Father, we thank Thee.
For fragrant air and cooling breeze,
For beauty of the blooming trees,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.
For this new morning with its light,
Father, we thank Thee.
For rest and shelter of the night,
Father, we thank Thee
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.

Beautiful! We have many reasons to give thanks and be filled with gratitude!!!! How is the artist of this wonderful painting?
“Inasmuch as the great Father has given us this year an abundant harvest of Indian corn, wheat, peas, beans, squashes, and garden vegetables, and has made the forests to abound with game and the sea with fish and clams, and inasmuch as He has protected us from the ravages of the savages, has spared us from pestilence and disease, has granted us freedom to worship God according to the dictates of our own conscience. Now I, your magistrate, do proclaim that all ye Pilgrims, with your wives and ye little ones, do gather at ye meeting house, on ye hill, between the hours of 9 and 12 in the daytime, on Thursday, November 29th, of the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and twenty three and the third year since ye Pilgrims landed on ye Pilgrim Rock, there to listen to ye pastor and render thanksgiving to ye Almighty God for all His blessings.”
William Bradford Ye Governor of Ye Colony
Interesting, eh? We didn’t get started out on the right foot, did we? No credit to the natives who kept that struggling colonists alive. No credit to the hard work of the colonists themselves. No mention of all those who weren’t “protected” and “spared”… and then the best part… you are freeeeeee to worship according to “our own conscience”… as long as you show up as commanded, at the meeting house at this specific time to do it.
Karrie: It’s called “The First Thanksgiving at Plymouth,” painted by Jennie A. Brownscombe (1850-1936) in Honesdale, PA, or New York, 1914; oil on canvas.
kcdad: happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to All. And thank you CJ for the beautiful picture.
Did you see Lucianos’ critique of Jims’ Steak House in todays paper? I agree totally with him on the content, but who the hell wrote it for him? He can’t speak half of those words and certainly can’t write them!!
They made many promises, but in the end they only kept one, they promised to take our land and they took it.- Red Cloud
I know how you feel. I’m still bitter about the Normans invading my ancestors’ homeland back in 1066.
the best garden vegetables are tomatoes and potatoes, they look great and you can eat them too.”*`
Wrong. Tomatoes are hard to keep the bugs off of and potatoes are too starchy and will make you fat. Herbs are perfect summer garden plants especially basil and cilantro.
