To me, it seems that it’s time to fire Hinton. The best way to do this is to elect people who state that they will do so. A guy with blinders on the size of New Hampshire is not the sort of dude you want leading your slowly expiring school system.
Amazing, isn’t it?
Ken Hinton needs to focus less on buildings and more on the education that goes on inside those buildings. We now have what, just 3600 or 3700 Dist. 150 high school students? We must stop the steady drip of students leaving for Dunlap, Metamora, and Washington.
Peoria could use less of a focus on the next great school building, museum, or other major project, and more of a nuts and bolts neighborhood approach. Take care of education and crime — this approach will help revive neighborhoods in decline. And don’t tear up railroad tracks, either, it creates the image of an unfriendly business climate.
Ya know what I think? Click my blogger name and see.
What planet is Mr. Hinton on? get real and see the light. The Board of Education need to take the lead and listen t the people and taxpayers. Mr Hinton is an employee of the board, not a dictator (or is he?). Time to clean out the chicken coop. Would Mr LaHood help out on this issue also?
Mr. Hinton on many occasions stated that these are his children and that he attends functions within the community. First of all, he does not even live in the area. His children did not attend District 150 schools. Secondly, of all the meetings and clean-ups and other functions throughout Peoria, I have only seen him at less than a half dozen. These appearances were at such things as Mayors dinner and the last Ceasefire meeting.
During the initial meeting with the East Bluff Neighborhood Associations, in February of this year, Mr. Hinton stated that he would go door to door within the neighborhood to get the support he would need. We have yet to see him in the area. Maybe he is afraid to walk in the supposedly crime ridden East Bluff. It is time that he and the board members start listening to the people who live here and in all the areas that are to be served by District 150.
The Park Board will now meet on 13 December at Woodruff High School. The meeting is to begin at 6:00 PM. They will have a presentation by the Park District describing how this began and where they are now. It was also stated that District 150 is to make a presentation. The Park Board will then open the discussion up to the attendees for questions and statements. The Park Board will answer questions if they have the answers, as is the District 150 staff. The Park Board has stated that this meeting is in regards to How The School would impact the Park and Park issues. They are not meeting to discuss the size of the school, who will attend or the incomplete analysis of cost for renovation verses a completely new facility. This meeting is VERY important and should be attended by all representatives throughout the City of Peoria. Glen Oak Park, the new zoo and the children’s museum are all important to the people of Peoria.
Hope to see many of you there.
