The first question is: What do you value about Peoria?

Peoria has a rich, intriguing history and enormous natural beauty. What other area in central Illinois has a wide, bending river, bluffs like in Detweiller Park, and so many nature preserves within a short drive? We have cultural activities to rival larger cities, with our symphony and events such as the art fair. The political and social dramas always keep things interesting. And we have good bloggers!
Low cost of living.
Tulip, are you my alter ego or something?? You spoke my mind again! 🙂
And as mazr said, we have a low cost of living (something the recruiter at my place of employment uses when people are resistant to come here because it’s not Chicago).
My comments – there’s alot of diversity here. We have Bradley, ICC, U of I College of Medicine, Robert Morris College, Midstate College and a number of great private schools. Of course, we have Cat and the suppliers that locate here to work for them along with other forms of industry. There are also a number of great places to eat and shop.
The River, the bluffs, driving in from Morton on I74 at night.
The fact that you can choose to go somewhere where you won’t know anyone, or you can choose to go somewhere where you know everyone. It’s the right mix for whatever your mood might be.
Plus, everytime I’m on Grandview Drive I say a little “thank you”.
Ditto to what Tulip said, but Peoria is also a city of decent and caring people. That is something which cannot be manufactured – it is homegrown.
I still believe we are truly the ‘Heart of Illinois.’ I feel this catch-phrase has fallen by the way-side.
The ease of getting from one place to another. The quality of medical services. Strong neighborhood associations (well, some anyway). The natural beauty of our parks. Summer band concerts in the park.
The Rock Island Trail where you can bike without the threat of traffic.
