I actually couldn’t write a better entry about this than David Jordan did on his blog (“MERCURY SPORTS GROUP MUST HAVE TRAIL TO SURVIVE!”), but I couldn’t resist using that headline.

Can I say “Fitness Nazi’s?”
Who?
Absolutely! Let’s ruin a Peoria company with 50 decent-paying jobs so that Peoria can maybe gain back 12 jobs. That makes as much sense as creating a trail thru some of Peoria’s worst crime-ridden neighborhoods.
at least they have stopped trotting out that old argument about losing taxpayer grants. Maybe they think we’ve heard that nonsense enough?
CJ – should we be writing letters or emails to anyone in particular in support of keeping the rail and building the trail?
CGiselle, absolutely you can write letters to the STB, the Journal Star, the Pekin Times, the City council, or anyone else that will listen. We have just filed a letter with STB regarding this very same matter showing how we are intending to support economic growth with the Kellar Branch rail line and also welcome the trails alongside. They say it can’t be done, but it is being done right here on the riverfront. Its being done in Bloomington and many other places in the state of Illinois and many places across the nation. They need to start thinking outside of their box and encompass the rest of the community in the plans.
