There was a press conference yesterday at which several city leaders endorsed Darin LaHood for State’s Attorney:
Mayor Jim Ardis and At-large Councilman Gary Sandberg both spoke at a news conference in City Council chambers supporting LaHood. Councilmen Bob Manning and George Jacob were present. Councilmen Jim Montelongo, Patrick Nichting, Ryan Spain and Eric Turner have indicated their support….
Other supporters at the news conference included Jim McConoughey, representing the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, and several police officers.
Most of those were old news. Chamber of Commerce had already endorsed him as well as the Mayor and several others. Yesterday was just a campaign strategy to get more mileage out of old news, a tactic used often by Aaron Schocks opponant. I think it has the opposite affect of garnering votes – it is a very transparent strategy that makes the candidate look desperate.
Agree with Anon.
Given the only local newspaper published a very sound endorsement of Kevin Lyons the day prior, this smacks of ignorance. I may not agree with the journal star all the time but IMHO, the endorsement was cogent and laid out well.
I think it strange the way LaHood is getting endorsements from all shades of the political spectrum. Could mean Lyons is making everybody mad by doing the right thing? Could mean they the insiders know something is amiss in the SA’s office that they are not telling us?
agree with the sentiments on here that this BIG news presser was a snoozer. not sure what the “all shades of the political spectrum” reference is to….Sandberg? well after getting charged by Lyons its not much of a surprise that he’d want new leadership, the rest are all republicans. If you are referring to the police unions, they’ve endorsed republicans before as well (not sure when they endorsed a democrat come to think of it). If referring to pastors, well, my understanding is they were mad that lyons was too tough on the woodruff kid who took a gun to school. it’ll be interesting to see if they are as enamored of darin “no compromises” lahood in four years. If he’s elected they can see his police deference policy in action and if he’s not, they can see whether he continues his “commitment” to the community or whether it was simply a campaign tactic.
