Awfuly EARLY for this post! Lot’s of time for the Cubs to build their 10 GM lead!
Does anyone else notice an inferiority complex with Cardinal fans?
Cub fans know their team is usually bad, yet Cardinal fans feel the urge to post May standings.
Well, I didn’t post any comment, but if I had it would have read, “It’s early in the season, but things are off to a good start!”
It’s way too early to post the standings. (Ask me last week when the Cubs were in first place and I might have given you a different answer.)
Today was a warm, sunny May day and the Cards are in their rightful place atop the division. I don’t think the Cards have the horses to keep it up all year but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
Wait, Cub fans are saying Cardinal fans have a complex? CJ posted a statement of fact. Like it or not, the cards are in first place. Like it or not, the Cubs have a better team on paper and in reality, but the Cards are in first place.
Hey, it probably wouldn’t last so let us enjoy it. Remember, the Cards were picked to be in last place.
“Hey, it probably wouldn’t last so let us enjoy it.”
I agree, enjoy it while you can… it won’t last long.
Now as a Cub fan, I have to disagree. I’ve been telling my fellow Cardinal fan co-workers that they were going to be the surprise team of the division this year, but it fell on deaf ears. And I don’t even bring up LaRussa anymore, since the majority of them wanted him fired a few years ago.
If there’s one way to get the pot stirred, it’s by posting/commenting on this great rivalry.
Nice to have baseball going again.
Fire LaRussa? You gotta be kidding! The guy’s a baseball genius. I was worried he was going to leave with Jocketty.
I know, C.J., I thought it was a head-scratcher also. I offered the Dusty for Tony trade, but oddly found no takers.

…knock, knock, knock…
Hello?
Anyone home?
just checking in again
Anon — Just to show what a good sport I am, I’ve prominently displayed the NL Central standings right on my sidebar, so you can check the standings here every day. That way, we can all watch the Cubs inevitable decline into obscurity together. 🙂
What was it, exactly, that declined last night?
The number of players on the Cubs roster?
It is August…do you know where you baseball team is?
poke….poke….
Marco?
Polo!
1969.
2008
Record since May 6
Cubs 65-37 .637
Cardinals 54-48 .529
Still some games left to play. I guess that’s why they don’t hold the playoffs in mid-May.
Or in mid-August.
1908.
The fix is in; Cubs win the World Series… just like Boston.
yea & after the cubs win this year & once more in a year or 2 is that MLB can finally push to have those stadiumsreplaced
I think CJ is an excellent example of how “it isn’t easy being green”
(with envy)
Yes, I am envious. I’m envious that the Cubs have enjoyed 100 years of losing while the Cardinals have won the World Series ten times. I’m horribly jealous that I didn’t get to watch my team get five outs from the World Series and blow it and then blame it on a fan. Oh, how I wish my team would have had a bat-corker like Sammy Sosa. Yes, rooting for a winning team is a real curse, Anon. Be glad you’re not saddled with such a burden.
It’s time to say goodbye to some valiant competitors:
Seattle 50-83 — Eliminated from postseason play.
Cincinnati 58-76
Pittsburgh 57-76
Both just two games away from elimination
And Washington 49-85 — four games left.
And then there were 26….
Ha-ha!
