Kudos to Peoria County for quickly cleaning up all the garbage on an abandoned portion of Big Hollow Road and sealing off access to it! Here are a couple of pictures showing the cleaned road and the barricades blocking access:
Also, kudos to HOI News for drawing attention to this situation and following up with city and county officials. This was a win for everyone. Hopefully the filthy pigs who dumped their garbage there in the first place will stay away now.
Kudos on bringing this to everyones attention. We Geocache and were recently finding one that is located on the abandoned road. We were surprised to see so much trash. We hauled out what we could in the truck and even informed Ameren Cilco that it appeared their crews had been working nearby and left a bunch of goodies. Insulators, connectors, cable and other things that did not look like trash but were in a trash pile. We were told they would look into it but we never heard anything more. They must have money to burn.
As someone who has been down many an abandoned road in his younger days… the barricades wont do crap. What it will do is create an illusion that it is closed off encouraging youths to hang out down there. With the barricades, the ole PD wont be visiting often.
The best solution is to tear the road out.
Isn’t it amazing that a sign has to be put up that says “No Dumping”? Really. Do people really think that dumping is allowed if there is no sign? No.
Barricades to be moved by local filthy pigs in 10….9….8….
Kudos to CJ and HOI for bringing attention to the situation and for all involved in the clean up.
But why didn’t they bring in the concrete barriers? They are far more effective/heavy as all get out. Dude, graduation and summer is coming – if I’m any indication, these kinds of gates were like a big fat invitation to park and drink when I was in HS.
