Open Thread Monday

There’s plenty to talk about (Ruffin arrested, Main Street traffic study, FOIA snafu, the Oscars, etc.), but I regrettably don’t have time to write at the moment. So, feel free to use this space to comment on these or any other subjects that are on your mind today.

  1. Why don’t we give Bra. dley officials time to weed out the facts in the Ruffin matter. There are always two sides of the story, let’s hear both; personally hope they will let this kid end his career by playng it out, and let the legal process handle the rest. That’s the way most schools do it. Bradley is a great University, let it be an understanding, compassionate one.

  2. I have to clarify wacko, if the facts point to Ruffin being guilty, you think he still should be allowed to play it out?

  3. Google up Operation Giant Lance. The operation is featured in this month’s Wired Magazine.

Nixon and Kissinger were even scarier than you might think.

  4. Mazr: If the facts unquestionably point to Ruffin being guilty, as you say, then he should be gone from the team, and let the student advisory board decide his school status.

  5. Funny as I was reading this I got a phone call. It was automated about how I felt about the new museum. As soon as I answered “no” (by pressing 2) on if this project was worthy of Peoria, it hung up on me.

  6. Em- I just got the same phone call from “Susan Anderson” with the same result- hung up after pressing 2 for no. I had debated pressing 1, just to see if they asked any further questions. It will be interesting to see how many of CJs readers also got the call.

  7. Got the call tonight. After listening to all the great things this museum will bring to Peoria my wife graciously pressed 1, which was ‘in support.’ We then were given three different taxing options. I waited to see if “press 4” would be for none of the aboe. “Press 4” turned out to be “undecided OR none of the above”. Not, press 4 for undecided and press 5 for none of the above…

    We hung up.

Unfortunately I didn’t have a pencil and paper handy to write it all down verbatim.

  8. My comment is about this County Supervisor or Manager or whatever that is getting the 30% pay increase… because he isn’t interested in the money but really loves Peoria.

His raise is more than probably half the people in Peoria county make in a year… what the heck is wrong with our government? Have we forgotten the comment from Dirksen: “a million here, a million there, pretty soon we are talking about ‘real’ money.”

Randy Oliver gets $190,000 to be fired… Kay Royster gets her contract bought off in three cities in a row… MY God! Who wouldn’t want to be a politician? You don’t have to do ANYTHING except get hired or elected.
