Please invite me, Mr. Ahl

I’ve been visiting my old friend Jonathan Ahl’s blog for quite some time. Especially since he moved to Iowa, I liked to read it to keep up with how he was liking the Hawkeye State, what new things Tommy was saying, and how he was enjoying his new job.

But when I went to read his blog tonight, I got the rude message, “Permission denied”:

This blog is open to invited readers only
http://ahlthingsconsidered.blogspot.com/

It doesn’t look like you have been invited to read this blog. If you think this is a mistake, you might want to contact the blog author and request an invitation.

And did I mention that he didn’t even visit me when he was in Peoria last weekend? I do believe I’ve been defriended. 🙁

  1. Go to the site again, and you won’t see the message anymore.

That’s because I’ve deleted my blog.

The closing it off to invitation only was only a stop gap to buy some time to pull down all the stuff I wanted to keep. It was a tough decision, but the right one, for now. I may blog again in the future, but for now, its off my plate.

CJ – I would never defriend you. You are a scholar and a gentelman, and one of the real journalists in Peoria. Your posts on the sales tax issue are a great example of enterprise reporting. Keep on going, buddy. And we’ll meet up the next time I’m in Peoria, I promise.

  2. There are no such beings as journalists in this day and age.

Are journalist now also activists then? How is a journalist defined? Has the baby boomer generation redefined journalism and news? Is a journalist now someone who passes on to the public a spartan meal of pertinent information for comsumption one day only to offer up a buffet of opinion and advocacy the next? And that goes for all bloggers not just this one. A lot that is offered up as Pate is little more than cat food. The ribeye is really chuck.

I hope Alka-Seltzer is easily available.

  3. Jonathan — Thanks for the kind words. I’ll miss reading your blog, but at the same time I admire that you were able to call it quits on the blog and delete it. I’ve tried to do that myself a couple of times, and yet… I’m still here. Someday I’ll follow in your footsteps. Please keep in touch!

  4. I have never understood why someone would just DELETE their blog. Call it quits, sure. I’ve been there before. It lasted about a day, I believe. But delete it? What a waste. It’s like book burning.
