Please vote for me on Tuesday, April 5, and then come to the party!

Tomorrow is the election. There are ten candidates for City Council, and the top five vote-getters will be our at-large council members for the next four years. I’m asking for your vote so that I’ll be one of those five.

Here’s my radio ad which has played the past several business days on WMBD (1470 AM), WSWT/Lite Rock 107 (106.9 FM), and WPIA/KISS-FM (98.5 FM); it explains what my priorities will be if I’m elected:

I would like to thank everyone who has supported me, those who have already cast their vote for me during the early voting period, those who have endorsed me and given me advice, those who have put my sign in their yard, those who have encouraged their friends and family to vote for me, and all those who will be voting for me tomorrow.

You’re all invited to join me at the G.A.R. Hall, 416 Hamilton Blvd., on Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m. for an election night party. (In the spirit of consolidating services, Beth Akeson and I will be having our election night party together.) I hope you can all attend!

  1. What no country club? GOOD LUCK WE NEED SOME SMART PEOPLE ON THE COUNCIL!!!!

  2. C.J., you wouldn’t happen to know where other candidates are holding
their election night parties? I may go around getting TV interviews
from as many as I can.

  3. Sorry I didn;t grab a yard sign but I WILL be voting for you tomorrow. And I may be showing up at your party but keep that on the QT….

  4. Love the radio spot! Hope to see as many people as possible at the G.A.R Hall tomorrow night at 7:00!

  5. Thanks to you and Beth for choosing the grand and historic G.A.R. Hall for your election night celebration!
I hope it will give all your friends and supporters a better understanding of what Historic Preservation is all about.

  6. I voted for you weeks ago CJ. I got a Facebook message from my friend Tim Riggenbach, and he is my friend from church, advising who to vote for and your name was not mentioned.

He said there were some people he hoped did not get elected but he didn’t mention who they were. I have a suspicion that I voted for the people he hoped would not get elected.

  7. That’s the best thing that could happen to C.J. If Riggenbach doesn’t like him that must mean he’s doing something right. I also threw a vote to Chuck Grayeb and almost voted for Chuck Weaver by mistake. I bet the Chucks are going to get some innaccurate voting returns by others who end up making that mistake since they’re both 1 & 2 on the ballot.

  8. I should mention that the note from Riggenbach was not just to me, it was to anyone on Facebook that may read his message. I know Tim is a good honest guy, I just differ with him on how the city council should operate. My other votes were for Sandburg and Akeson.

  9. Went and voted at Noon today the total count from the 34,35,36 precint was 75 people since 6am. I guess folks just don’t care which is very sad this election will effect us more than any other election. I will try to make it to the party.

  10. CJ, I wish I could be with you and Beth tonight! Your radio spot is excellent! Clear and concise as you always are. I’m in Fort McMurray, Alberta where I will be watching the returns. All the best!

  11. Well, in 2007 Sandberg topped everyone with 13,769 votes and Montelongo snuck in the 5th spot with 7,788. Hopefully a lot of those Sandberg votes got spread to C.J. & Beth so all 3 can get into bottom 3 spots. I have little doubt that Weaver & Spain will take the top two spots. Those with the most friends get the most votes and those with the most money get the most friends. Maybe that’s not always true, I just like being cynical for good luck!

  12. Lots of people want to just lob grenades from the sidelines but you stepped into the arena. Very proud of both you and Amy and wish you the very best tonight! Hope to see you later!

  13. Dennis, I just heard that Andre Williams’ party is at the Pere Marquette. Don’t know about anyone else.

  14. I talked to WEEK newsroom; because they can’t be everywhere tonight with cameras, they have asked candidates to come down to City Hall about 9:30 for interviews, figuring all
ballots will be counted by then. That may work better for me as well, having most (if not all) candidates at 1 spot.

  15. C.J. thank you for running. If you decide to run again, you’ve got my vote. I’ll look forward to your continued great coverage of the goings on in this city.

Voter apathy has me very bummed. I guess enough people just don’t care.

  16. sad, just sad how this election turned out. How do people expect things to change when we keep voting the same people back in? Spain and Turner – they’ve never met a TIF or “fee” they didn’t like.

  17. i think you summed it all up very well Leslie. Wolfmeyer again too?! very sad indeed.

  18. CJ sorry about the turnout. You would be a most excellent citizen councilperson.

I do hope you will try again in the next go round. Get out early. Find a way to get some positive press coverage. Let’s think of ways that your online community can work for you to connect with their friends.

The Chuck Weavers of the city have connections.

    You have credibility.

Keep up the good writing and the good work.

  19. “Lots of people want to just lob grenades from the sidelines but you stepped into the arena. Very proud of both you and Amy.”

“The Chuck Weavers of the city have connections. You have credibility.”

“So, what kinda food will be served?”

Hang your head high, C.J., there are few that have the guts to even try. I think I speak for most of the ‘online’ community in saying we’re very proud of you.

  20. And I echo those words, C. J. It was very nice to meet Amy and your folks, as well as Beth’s family. Beth and Weaver made it in, so there is at least some help for Gary to continue to battle against the machine. Two years from now you will have another shot, so do not despair. We are with you. Thank you for standing up to the line, my friend.

  21. Frederick, I hate to say it but I have a feeling Weaver is part of the “machine”.

  22. If you want your feelings about Chuck Weaver confirmed go look at the contributors to the Friends of Chuck Weaver on the state elections website. OSF inc, Dave Ransburg, Doug Oberlhelmen, $3000 from the Business PAC of Central Illinois, also many $1000 dollar contributions from people who don’t even have a Peoria address. Not really the types of people who are esstential services first.

  23. Mazr, I don’t hate saying it. Weaver is part of the machine! He’s better than Turner & Montelongo, but who isn’t? I’m sure him & Ryan Spain are hanging at the Peoria Polo grounds as we speak discussing which needy developer need Peoria’s next million. New blog name for someone: Peoria Pathetic!
