From a City of Peoria press release:
Mayor Jim Ardis and Dr. Amir Al-Khafaji, Chairman of the Peoria Race Relations Commission, will hold a news conference on April 11, 2008 at 1:30 p.m., in Room 400 at City Hall, to announce the names of the individuals who have been selected to serve on the newly formed commission.
At the Mayor’s State of the City Address this year, he announced the formation of the Peoria Race Relations Commission to focus on race issues in the community and to develop positive means to deal with them. Dr. Amir Al-Khafaji, is the Chair of Civil Engineering and Construction at Bradley University.
Ya hoo yippidy.
Another bureaucracy… how much these clowns getting paid?
Let’s see if we can predict their findings:
1) People that look different from each other don’t get a long.
2) People from perceived different socio-economic / cultural backgrounds don’t like to be around each other
3) Those people who don’t look like white middle class europeans are blamed for everything… EXCEPT by those who are not white euro-americans and then those people blame the white euro-americans.
4) We need to spend more money on school and social programs
Totally off topic, but how about that E.P./Peoria fountain idea? Now that’s money well spent.
Mazr:
Since you got off the subect, let me add:
Forget the fountain. Peoria already has its icon/centerfold/logo. It is Joe’s Crabshack which occupies the #1 location in the downtown Peoria riverfront, thanks to some past brainiacs and their decisions on land use.
Whoppie!! Alright! Another feel-good commission to make the future of Peoria seem brighter, more progressive and politically correct. Good job Ardis. You sure don’t get my vote next election. 5 to 10 years from now it will be interesting to see just what of any worth this commission has accomplished. It should be named “Peoria Race Relations Commission for Political Correctness”. Meanwhile, let’s look for other ways to spend taxpayer monies without securing new revenue streams.
A commission to paper over the lack of effort to bring about jobs and meaningful redevelopment to Peoria’s largely black underclass. Lets get together and talk about feeling good about low paying jobs.
George,
Would you be willing to use another name? Your posts, although infrequent, may be leading some of CJ’s readers to think they are reading a post written by me.
We have unique views and I would prefer not to have the confusion..
CJ- have you had this happen before when two different people use the same ID? Is there such a thing as blogger identity theft? 🙂
CJ, how do we know George and George the original are not Multiphasic Personality Dissociations of the same person??? (Is the the Twilight Zone music I hear in the background?)
kcdad: to the best of my knowledge, George and George(the original) are two different people.
I was just joshin’. It wouldn’t matter either way, to me. I don’t pay much attention to the names, just the ideas.
