No, you never were inducted into the Hall of Fame, but you brought joy to millions of Cubs fans (and foes) through your radio broadcasts and irrepressible passion for the team you loved. You will be remembered. You will be missed.

Good post, C.J.
Cool. I am leaving my Ron Santo baseball cards to my son.
I will miss his *ahem* unique style of broadcasting. You could always turn on a game and instantly know how the game was going. If Ronnie was talking, we were winning. If he were moaning, we just gave up the go-ahead run. If Pat was doing all of the talking, it was a blowout.
Ron was one of those really good guys you just hate to see go. Despite all the adversity he faced, he went out and did his job, and he didn’t complain about his problems. For the most of us – with all of our body parts intact – it’s something to think about.
Ron Santo burgers… that’s what I remember
Charlie, are you sure you’re not thinking of “Ron Santo’s Pizza”?
I don’t think so… 1968, Ron Santo burgers, watching the Cincinnati Reds from the 3rd base side behind the dugout. I could be wrong.
I will always rmemeber Ron’s deap and abiding hatred for the Mets.
Cubs or Cardinal fan – it doesn’t matter. We can all agree on our hatred of the Mets.
Thanks for reminding us, Bill.
#10 – you will be missed.

Ron Santo, we wil miss you. My dad preferred listening to Pat & you on the radio with the TV muted.
So do us a favor. Find Harry Carey for us up there, and
the two of you send some angel dust to the 2011 Cubs so they can finally get into the World Series. I know Harry Carey tried in 2003, but somehow got stopped with just 5 outs to go…
1. That’s DEEP and abiding hatred.
2. “SOMEHOW” got stopped? %#*^ Bartman.
Ron Santo not being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame while he was alive was absolutely inexcusable. He had the numbers, he had the All-Star games and gold gloves, he had the fan base, he had the personality, and most of all, he had the class.
Which is more than we will be able to say for those voters when they start to enshrine their steroid-infused heroes of the 1990’s and 2000’s with alacrity when their time comes due.
A pox be upon them for not letting Ron experience the joy of being elected to the hall.
wow that’s one awesome big kitty.
Billy…on behalf of all Cub fans, please drop the Bartman excuse. Alex Gonzalez is where your hatred should be directed.
To continue to bring up the name Bartman is embarrassing.
Mazr,
I completely agree. If he turns that double-play, it is a completely different ballgame.
Leave Bartman alone.
ahhh don’t be such party poopers…
