Former Illinois governor George Ryan was sentenced to six and a half years in a minimum-security prison. And at which prison will he be serving that time? We don’t know yet, but the Bloomington Pantagraph reports (emphasis mine):
Although his final destination remains unknown – as does the exact start-date of the 78-month prison sentence he received Wednesday – the federal Bureau of Prisons generally attempts to place inmates within 500 miles of their homes.
Prisons within that proximity of the governor’s Kankakee home include: Pekin, Terre Haute, Ind,; Springfield, Mo.; and Oxford, Wis.
Oh, please, please, please, let him serve his time in Pekin! That would be sweet.
Great … we get the trash. Wonderful. Thanks.
As far as I’m concerned 6-1/2 years was extremely leneint.
He should have gotten 20-25.
What’s also worth commenting on is his speech at sentencing. He said it was the saddest day of his life. Funny, the days he committed the crimes weren’t the saddest days of his life; the day he was indicted wasn’t either (he was defiant then); the days of trial weren’t (nope, still defiant); the day he was convicted wasn’t (nope, still defiant). No, the saddest day of his life was the day he was called upon to pay for his crimes. That was sad. He wasn’t sorry he committed the crimes; he wasn’t even sorry he was caught. He was sorry he had to go to prison. Boo Hoo. He should get hard labor and bad food, and lots of contact with the other inmates, especially ones he took off of death row. They might want to show their gratitude to him.
