School board supports charter school

The item on the agenda was:

APPROVAL OF THE PEORIA CHARTER SCHOOL INITIATIVE
Proposed Action: That the charter school proposal submitted by Peoria Charter School Initiative dated October 1, 2009 and amended on December 23, 2009 is approved, subject to the negotiation of the terms of a contract between the Board of Education and Peoria Charter School Initiative as required by the Illinois School Code.

And it passed 6-1, which is no surprise. The only dissenting vote was Laura Petelle.

  1. And a substitute teacher walked out halfway through the day because of physical and verbal assault by 5th graders. The Principal, Asst. Principal did nothing to help so she picked up her coat and said, I’m outa here. Now people, these are 11-12 year olds that are out of control because they know that there are NO CONSEQUENCES handed down. It is very much a “head in the sand” mentality at Trewyn and on wisconsin Ave. with regard to student discipline. I am quite sure that the teachers at Trewyn could write a book about the worthless administrators “running” that school.

  2. Also, did you see in today’s paper that 200 teachers in 150 might be pinkslipped–still no mention of a reduction in the number of administrators. Just how overcrowded can we expect classes to be next year? I know that 150 fears cancelling the Edison contract for fear that Northmoor parents will leave the district, but aren’t there parents at other schools who will make the same threats if their children are in overcrowded classrooms next year?

  3. before too long there will be 2 administrators for every teacher. One to tell the teacher what to do and one to tell the teacher what not to do……..administrators for data, for research, for curricula, for Sp. Ed., for mentors, for administrators, etc….not counting the “consultants”, of course. How did Harry Whitaker do it? No computers, very, very few administrators……….wow! Maybe Harry should be the one interviewing the potentially new superintendent…..now there’s a thought.

  4. Send all Trewyn students to the Charter school! They’ll fix em. What is the board meeting about tomorrow? Something about personnel. Must be serious, it’s on a Saturday.

  5. Probably round two of superintendent interviews. Don’t worry strong 1, they will never do anything about certain administrators in D150. Those people are made of Teflon…..nothing sticks…

  6. Charlie said: “C.J. : told ya (about Hines)”

Charlie – can you tell the rest of us about Hines?

  7. These problems are so institutionalized it is sick… a volunteer has started an after school program at Trewyn… the first week of the program she was apparently the only adult in the building, and there was no activity bus afterward to take the kids home… talk about a lawsuit waiting to happen.
