PEORIA: Consultants propose Peoria’s first roundabout road.
Please, people, let’s not let this happen.
Loucks/Sheridan? That is Van Auken’s baby. It will happen come hell or high water and if she has to spend everyone’s tax money to do it, she will. This is the biggest waste of money but some neighborhood advocates think it will improve their area. I wish I knew just how.
Being familiar with roundabouts… I say bring em. They are great in congested intersections. That might seem counterintuitive but they are. Traffic flows better with a roundabout versus a stop light. Just takes some getting used to.
I have also lived in cities/towns with roundabouts – and they do work. Help keep traffic moving quite well. I wouldn’t mind seeing them at all.
No, No, No! This is Peoria! Change = bad.
Roundabouts do work. I just like to see how they are going to fit one big enough to work at that intersection.
One the way home from Scouts, we were talking about the price of gas $3.76 and the need for a new fuel source. One scout said, “How about dandelions? They’re everywhere.”
I have also lived in a roundabout intense area in the past and have mixed feelings about it. Even where we lived where there were literally several in our neighborhood, people seemed to have a hard time following “the rules.” Some people would be too timid about taking their turn, other’s too aggressive, and there were always the idiots that drove way too fast through them (despite the speed bumps). So I wonder how having one would work out, since many people will be unfamiliar with the concept.
I have no doubt there will be some craziness the first year. There might be a spike in accidents. But in the long run it will work out and actually be safer and more efficient in the movement of cars.

Speed bumps??? What speed bumps. There better not be any speed bumps.
I didn’t realize there was such a traffic problem in that area of Sheridan Road that a roundabout was needed. Is traffic that bad there?
No – traffic is not bad there. University and Main, War Memorial and University, War Memorial and Knoxville yes – Sheridan and Loucks/McClure – no.
It is not about car traffic, it is about drugs and gangs… a different kind of traffic.
Okay, I’ll ask. How does a road way roundabout control drug and gang traffic, kcdad?
