At Washington Gifted School’s Fine Arts Night on Thursday, Principal Joan Wojcikewych told the audience what she’s planning to do after she retires at the end of this year: run for the District 150 school board. Wojcikewych lives in the second voting district within District 150. The terms of current second district board members Linda Butler and Lynn Costic (who is filling Rachael Parker’s term since Parker was elected to the Peoria County Board) expire in 2012. Икони
So Liar…are you saying that Manual only houses criminals! I sure hope you aren’t in education and that is what you think of all children.
It is always entertaining to read the posts of those who are ignorant (such as Liar) who believe that because children are poor and minority they cannot learn and must be criminals. Liar is obviously out of touch with today’s youth and believes that the bad behavior of some must be the norm for all. It must be nice to sit in judgment and stereotype…not to mention that there is the mention of Davis as always who still has not been convicted of anything that I have been able to find…and now Ross? Like her or not she’s about the only one on the board who actually asks questions and every now and then looks beyond the giant pendulum that is hypnotizing them into nodding their heads yes every time Lathan makes an outrageous suggestion/demand. Liar, it really must be wonderful to be perfect. Hope you’re enjoying yourself…just stay away from public schools…you know…criminals…
Well, I am assuming that “Liar” thought those names would be good since everyone in the past administration thought Davis “walked on water”. And, as for Martha Ross, she votes NO on every expulsion, regardless of whether or not it is for bringing a weapon to school or selling drugs at school. On top of that, she felt the need to squeeze the taxpayers for money to go on a vacation, aka conference to San Francisco. Do you really think should would have attended that conference if it had been in Decator, IL? Seriously folks, lighten up….this district is a cluster f*** to say the least.
Why was MHS’s name changed?
mortified, the name was probably changed because former Manual graduates do not want to be associated with the ridiculous curriculum (dumbing down) that Manual now teaches.
I am certainly no one to criticize those who criticize District 150 or Manual. Maybe I don’t always succeed but I try to offer what I consider to be constructive criticism–things that can be fixed or improved, etc. I do object to lumping all Manual students into one negative pot. There are well-behaved and academically ready students at Manual. I have to revise some of my criticism–maybe unspoken until now. I was under the impression that Manual would have fewer suspensions than the other high schools have. That is why I FOIA–to get the facts. In fact, bad behavior does not go unpunished at Manual–at least, MHS leads in number of suspensions (even with fewer students). However, the truth is that suspensions and expulsions are not effective consequences at MHS or at PHS or RHS. An alternative school is sorely needed–so far I have not heard any plans for a viable alternative school to be housed at the Woodruff building.
I don’t approve of Martha’s votes against suspensions or expulsion. However, to be totally negative about Martha is wrong–she frequently is the only one or one of two or three, at the most, who ever questions some items on the agenda.
maybe thats because she doesn’t read her packet before the meeting. Asking questions because one comes unpepared isn’t a positive.
In the know–you’re right, but reading one’s packet and preparing for a meeting and then STILL proceeding to make one boneheaded and costly decision after another at the expense of children is no badge of honor either! If you haven’t seen the movie The Cartel I’d highly recommend it. It focuses on NJ schools but there are striking and scary similarities to what goes on here. Wake up Peoria taxpayers and hold this entire board responsible for their ridiculous and corrupt decisions and for turning their heads when they see wrong being done. If even one member of that board would show some moral integrity and have the conviction to stand for right it might just be amazing how many others would follow suit. I’m afraid we will never know…
Sharon said: I am certainly no {sic} one to criticize those who criticize District 150 or Manual.
No kidding!!!! The understatement of the year!! 🙂
District 150 Observor–your opinion is noted; however, those who blindly or uncaringly do not raise their voices in opposition to so much of what District 150 has done and is doing (or has not done)are truly the cause of District 150’s problems. Go to a board meeting and there are almost no people in the audience for the meeting itself. It is no wonder that this board believes that it can make decisions without discussing the issues or being transparent about what is really going on in District 150–the money spent foolishly, the discipline problems running rampant without seeking real solutions, the lowering of standards. Face it; there are very few of us left that really care whether or not District 150 fails or succeeds. Most that have a strong enough voice have long left the district and/or the city itself.
ROCK ON, Sharon!!!
I just heard that the current Director of Special Ed does not have the proper certification and if she does now, she did not this past school year. I was told she doesn’t know what she is doing! Does anyone know if that is correct? Who wanted her in that position? District 150 is a mess!
Easy to daringly and mindfully criticize parents for putting a spotlight on dishonesty at the expense of their children. pfft.. Let’s get back to the original post. Who out there has proof that Wojo is capable and fiscally responsible????
Sharon it doesn’t do any good to go to the meetings, their mind is made up. Look at the mess at Manual. They kept the two female academy leaders who even in the eyes of the students and teachers, are the worst. And these same academy leaders are evaluating teachers when their incapable of doing their own job. They are bringing in another one from PHS that isn’t any better. Everyone knows what is going on at MHS and they just refuse to do anything about it. Just like the principal at Mark Bills, instead of getting rid of him because he is a poor performer they just put him elsewhere. This reshuffling of principals was a joke.! So you are right, no one really cares because their mind is already made up and why waste the time. The answer is send our kids elsewhere.
The current Special Education director does have her DOSE degree from ISU. She worked very hard to accomplish that, along with being a Nationally Board Certified Teacher (NBCT), which not a lot of educators have. She is hardworking and trustworthy.
cttsp5, I still do care about District 150 and wish that people who do care would come out in droves to board meetings to demand better decisions and to express their own opinions about District 150. I don’t want people to leave the district–that is the solution many have chosen and it will mean the end of a viable district. I truly hate the thought of that happening.
As for the Washington Gifted principal, no one has provided any believable proof that she isn’t trustworthy or capable. She isn’t the only principal to go over budget for extra-curricular activities. I really don’t know much about her or how she ran the school. There are probably opinions on both sides–but no glaring misdeeds comparable to those exhibited by some other principals. Capability is in the eye of the beholder without specific charges to the contrary.
ru kidding: That’s good to know. That is why I wanted to clarify the rumor. I have only seen her in a group meeting and really do not work in sped. I must say she seems like a much better choice than Mary O’Brian, the one Hinton brought in.
