I just read pjstar.com that the 2006 World Series trophy will be on display in Peoria Thursday (3/22):
From 4 to 7 p.m., the trophy will be at the U.S. Cellular store at 7714 N. Grand Prairie Drive, adjacent to The Shoppes at Grand Prairie.
For those Cubs fans who read my blog, I should probably explain: The World Series is a best-of-seven contest that’s played after the Cubs go home at the end of each season. The winner gets this handsome trophy pictured to the right, and gets to wear the title “World Champion” for a year.
The 2006 World Champions were the St. Louis Cardinals, and this is the 10th trophy they’ve collected over their magnificent and storied history.
** yawn **
If anyone cared, it wouldn’t be in some phone store. Probably in the bathroom on top of it.
Now, when the Cubs win it this year, it will be somewhere more fitting!
GO CUBS!
I always wondered what happened after the regular season ended. As always, I can count on CJ to do the research and educate those clueless ones such as I.
I will most certainly go to the Cell Phone store to see what the latest and greatest phones are and to learn more about what this whole World Series thing is.
Frankly, I think the post season is way over-hyped.
MLB champions, not World champions…
I believe this is the 99th year in a row some Cubs fan has said that….
Ben, it’s “World Champions.”
World Champions… Pfft… what a silly pretentious lot. Did they beat the top Japanese team? Mmm no. Did they beat the top Cuban team? Mmm.. probably not. There is a laundry list of nations with good baseball teams which the “World Champion” Insert Your Team, never plays.
At the 2004 Olympics the U.S. didn’t even qualify to participate. They have qualified for 2008.
Mahkno, I don’t make the rules. Major League Baseball calls it the “World Series.” I’ll be happy to forward your comment to them — maybe they’ll change the name? 😉
We Cub fans have to be given credit for admitting it – it takes a secure person to step up to ridicule
What’s that on the front page of the Journal Star on trophy day? WOO WOO! WOO WOO!
Uh Oh….Tony makes the news….should have stopped celebrating months ago.

C.J., why the obsession with the Cubs and their fans?
Peo Proud: Maybe you should find out what LaRussa is drinking and send a case to Piniella.
Mazr: They’re an easy target.
Wait till everyone finds out it was Coors and not Bud he was drinking! Then they will run him out of town…..
You know…after taking a second look, the trophy looks deceptively like a fancy beer can holder 🙂
1470AM suggested that traffic might be heavy around Grand Prairie this afternoon because of the trophy. Fortuntately for Peoria drivers, LaRussa won’t be accompanying it. 🙂
.093 BAC – Wasn’t very long ago that it would have meant nothing. .10 was the older standard. MADD won’t be pleased until prohibition comes back.
OK I cancelled my heart lung transplant so I can go out and look at a trophy from baseball where all the players look like off duty cops. Damn.
C.J., this blog shows that you’re an extremely intelligent person. Don’t follow the MLB’s marketing BS. There’s no shame in being MLB champions and it’s simply a lie to say World champion. And I’m saying this as a Cards fan!
