A match made in heaven?

I see from Clare Jellick’s blog that Bruce Brown, among others, is running for the school board. The last time Mr. Brown ran for public office was in 2005 when he ran unsuccessfully for mayor.

One of the reasons he didn’t get past the primary is because of his bewildering mass mailing. Anyone remember this?

If you had a garden,
the Butterfly and the Bee
would be welcome additions.

It’s art.

The Butterfly?
Color and whimsy…
A flight of light.

The Bee?
Well, let’s just say
“purpose driven”.

On paper and flowcharts,
the Bee isn’t supposed
to be able to fly…

Perhaps it’s Ali…
“Float like a Butterfly,
sting like a Bee”?

Don’t you think he would be a perfect fit in a district that also boasts consultant Judy Harris Helm? “If it can happen to a bee, just imagine….”

  1. If Bruce Brown runs for the school board, he will be elected if he keeps his feet on he ground and runs his own campaign. This is a guy who will give you straight answers, like them or not. We need someone like that on the school board.

  2. From the Illinois School Code:

Sec. 10‑16.7. School board duties with respect to superintendent. In addition to all other powers and duties enumerated in this Article, the school board shall make all employment decisions pertaining to the superintendent. The school board shall direct, through policy, the superintendent in his or her charge of the administration of the school district, including without limitation considering the recommendations of the superintendent concerning the budget, building plans, the locations of sites, the selection, retention, and dismissal of employees, and the selection of textbooks, instructional material, and courses of study. The school board shall evaluate the superintendent in his or her administration of school board policies and his or her stewardship of the assets of the district.

Anyone know when Hinton’s last evaluation occurred?

Unfortuantely, the direction this statutory provision gives Board members is to set “policy” and then essentially react to whatever the Superintendent proposes. The Board should not micromanage but it should be more proactive on the important issues.
