A message from the City Manager

New City Manager Patrick Urich included this message in the latest Issues Update from the City:

MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER. My first few days on the job have been a whirlwind of activities. One particular item that I stressed to the senior management is that I would like to see more information included in this Issues Update on a regular and recurring basis. This important communication vehicle needs to be better utilized and it is my intention to do so.

That’s good news! The more public communication, the better.

  1. Yes, indeed! The Issues Update is a critical communication tool that should be widely distributed. Citizens need to know WHAT the “critical” isssues are, WHAT is on the Council’s dashboard / radar screen and Citizens need the clear opportunity to provide input on these ‘issues’.

More communication on these ‘issues’ will help establish the perception that the Council is truly focused and not just legistlating on the fly as is the currently held perception!

  2. CJ: What is the process for being added to the Issues Update email distribution list?

  3. So the new information in the Issues Update is that there is going to be more information in the Issues Update? When? The next one? Or was this it?

  4. Why don’t they just post on their website like many other communities do that have these type of City Manager newsletters? Seems like “transparency” isn’t really achieved when you require someone to call and ask to be placed on the distribution listing.

  5. Seems perception is the name of the game. and by game, I mean not based in reality. my councilperson wants to reduce the perception of crime. I would prefer actually reducing crime then the “perception” will follow. Projects are hodge podge will no master plan. They seem to be based on profits made by certain companies or developers. Perception, or reality if you follow the trail of the $$$$$. You decide. When plans are developed and not implemented it is not perception, it’s reality. When we spend another $19,000 on a feel good weekend for the officials when we just spent $40,000 on a consultant to help improve communications and then not follow a single recommendations, when we just had another consultant attempt to do what is being proposed at a meeting at the Innovation center and it is not followed, I guess my perception is that we are wasting funds we don’t have. We must expect good stewardship of the “people’s” funds.
