Aaron Schock at the Improv

Aaron Schock at the ImprovRemember that speech that Aaron Schock gave when he announced he was running for the 18th Congressional District seat? I bet you didn’t know that part of it was a comedy act:

A statement to possibly sell nuclear arms to Taiwan was meant “more in jest” rather than as an actual proposal, congressional candidate Aaron Schock is now saying.

I see. So now it wasn’t a “deeply thought-out policy,” like Schock’s campaign manager Steve Shearer said when the story initially broke. Shearer told State Journal-Register reporter Bernard Schoenburg that Schock “’has studied that issue and was reading from different foreign policy magazines’ as he developed his stand on the issue.” I imagine those foreign policy magazines were filled with nuclear proliferation jokes — they’re the bomb, you know.

It’s quite entertaining to hear how Schock’s story keeps changing as time goes on. I expect to pick up the paper next week and read that Schock is saying, “Nukes? Naw, I never said anything about giving Taiwan nukes. I said that if China didn’t cooperate with us against Iran, I was going to give Hu Jintao a noogie. Get it right guys.”

  1. Schock is so full of himself–it is overwhelming. One trait I dislike most among Republicans is this prevailing sense of entitlement–Schock is the very worst I have ever seen.

He seems annoyed that he is being held accountable for his own words. Instead of admitting he (oh my god) was wrong about something, he just keeps changing his story. Read his speech: It wasn’t a joke.

Do we really need someone like this in Congress? Isn’t Congress already full of people like this?

I am hoping McConoughey (especially after his awful performance at last night’s debate!!) will drop out and support Morris.

    Anyone But Schock.

  2. ABS,

See, I hope Morris drops out and supports Jim…either way we both agree…ANYONE BUT SCHOCK!

    JB

  3. ABS,

Morris has no chance of beating Schock. No one outside of the City of Peoria, and a good number of people in Peoria, have any idea who John Morris is. All the polls from Schock and McConoughey’s camps show how far behind he is. If anything Morris should be the one to drop out as McConoughey has been working the district hard while John camps out in his campaign office.

  4. strongly disagree on the McConoughey/Morris front.

#1 – McConoughey has gone off the air and looks like he is out of money whereas now Morris is blitzing the media with his commercials. (Billboards in October still don’t make sense to me, but that was McConoguhey’s own money so whatever).

#2 – Morris is simply a better candidate. He’s a better communicator. His policy proposals make more sense(Who thinks the economy is more important that national security? McConouhey. Morris and Schock are on the same page on that one.) Not to mention Morris at least has some political experience, most of which I think is good. If 8 years of city council meetings the only thing people have to say bad about him is the garbage tax then I’ll take that.

According to Schcok’s push polls he is up 40% on either candidate. If that really were true it wouldn’t matter who endorsed who. I think McConoughey needs to look in the mirror and realize he either needs to dump another $100,000 of his own 1,000,000 that he has or just get out of it.

McConoughey’s push polls were even more hysterical than Schock’s.

Vote for Morris. Are people not even listening to the debates?

  5. Does JJ stand for John Jr? Morris is dead last by a long shot in all the polls. If I were him I would start looking for a new job now, we all know he got canned in august anyway regardless of the leave of absence he claims.

  6. I am not really a Schock fan, but I thought the original comment was taken way too literally by most people.
I understood what he meant – that Taiwan needs to be protected from China and not let China bully them or us into anything.
