Cahill out, but who’s in?

So, right after I left town for the weekend, the rumor about District 150 Controller/Treasurer Guy Cahill leaving was confirmed. Figures. It will be made official Tuesday night at the regular school board meeting. The agenda reads:

17. TERMINATION OF CONTROLLER/TREASURER CONTRACT
18. APPOINTMENT OF TEMPORARY CONTROLLER/TREASURER

So, the question is, who’s going to be filling in temporarily? School board members are tight-lipped, citing confidentiality of personnel matters.

You might be interested to know that, according to District 150’s bylaws (2:110), a school board member can serve as treasurer:

The Treasurer of the Board shall be either an elected member of the Board who serves a 1-year term or an appointed non-Board member who serves at the Board’s pleasure. A Treasurer who is a Board member may not be compensated.

I believe Jim Stowell would qualify for this position. At least in the interim, this could help the school district save money while they’re looking for a permanent replacement for Mr. Cahill, since a board member can’t be compensated, but anyone else they appoint would have to be compensated.

  1. My guess is that the board has already made a decision–I believe I heard two things were on the agenda for a vote–Cahill’s termination and the appointment of a replacement.

  2. CJ I just sent you my proposals and actually this news is good in the sense that savings that I have outlined could start right here.

  3. Jim could be treasurer, but could he also be comptroller? Wouldn’t that be a full-time job (in essence, finance director)? Let’s not pretend that we don’t need someone who has a fairly deep level of public finances.

  4. With a budget approaching $200 million, the top person should be a finance and business person.

They are running a huge business with an upaid board and an educators running the show.

It will change someday, or else the government will take over.

    Then what?

  5. I just took a look at the Journal Star Op/Ed page………..

I feel like I need to take a shower.

  6. OK, so who else saw the school board meeting?

WITHOUT MALICE wins the prize for best prediction of Cahill’s replacement.

Martha Ross was really on her game tonight wasn’t she? I think some of them are starting to find their mojo.

  7. “Martha Ross was really on her game tonight wasn’t she? I think some of them are starting to find their mojo.”

care to expound, for those of us who choose satellite?

  8. Wolfmeyer of all people was actually questioning Hinton, and demanding to know why administration isn;t listening to the board regarding travel spending. Beautiful. He seemed stunned.

  9. C.J., A Woodruff teacher who was at the board meeting told me that the Peoria Chroncle has been blocked on all the Woodruff computers. He said he used to check it every day; now it’s unavailable. He did give me permission to report that information.
Yes, Martha, has finally come alive.
I’m sure the administration and board hated having to admit that Cahill had to go–since Terry has been calling for his removal since the day he took the job.

  10. I loved it when Hinton was asked if cutting 2% on contracts meant individuals also… But a 2% cut from consultants is still not enough. They never seem to raise the question as to when the consultants are going to GO! But they will take money away from Department Chairpersons.

Does Hinton ever have an answer to anything, or is it always,” Well, I will tell you this, other communities are doing this and it worked for them. I just don’t have the figures on it right now.”

Yes, they are finally starting to question him. But, still, they did not cut out travel, they left it to his discretion. That was not good.

  11. Amen to that MiddleAgedWomanBlogging! “Well, I will tell you, other districts are doing this,” seems to the #1 choice of verbiage for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. I’m going to use a counter at the next meeting on how many times hinton says “I will tell you this….”
