Callahan a candidate in search of an issue

I think my readers know that I’m no fan of Aaron Schock. But seriously, is this the best his Democratic challenger can do?

Congressional candidate Colleen Callahan is criticizing her opponent Aaron Schock for spending too much time fundraising, being “AWOL” and not responding to issues.

Apparently, Callahan cut-and-pasted Karen McDonald’s “Word on the Street” column onto her campaign letterhead and faxed it out as a press release. And then McDonald dutifully reported on it. Talk about a “news cycle.”

Well, I guess it’s a win-win for Callahan and McDonald. Callahan gets some free publicity, and McDonald got Schock to finally return her call.

  1. Callahan can’t say anything that isn’t approved by the Democrat party hacks that gave her the nomination. Since their “talking points” are sure losers in the 18th. District, she has wisely decided to say very little and hope Schock defeats himself.

  2. Yeah, here’s her stance on the economy:

Our current economy simply does not work for Middle America, and that needs to change.

Why does it not work? Can you give examples? How does it need to change? How would you effect those changes if elected?

And here’s her stance on health care:

It is time to call for a healthcare system in America that works for people, rather than having people work without being able to afford coverage.

And what would that look like? Specifically, what would you do to create a health care system “that works for people”?

    My favorite is foreign policy:

We need a solution that will end this conflict, bring our service men and women home safely, and promote peace and prosperity in Iraq and the nations surrounding it.

I think all Americans would agree with that statement! The argument is precisely over what that solution should be.

Ugh. These statements are completely useless. But, on the other hand, at least she has an “issues” page on her website. Schock has no “issues” page at all on his.

  3. One further thought.. if you want to know Schocks record on any subject, you can google that topic plus “+ Aaron Schock”, and voila, you will have your answer. 😉

  4. Google: “nuclear missiles + aaron schock”

    Results:

    • Aaron Schock’s Support of Giving Nuclear Weapons to Taiwan Irresponsible.
    • ILLINOIZE: Aaron Schock Digs Himself into Even Deeper Hole Nov 11, 2007 … Aaron Schock confuses Tiawan with Nicaragua and wants to arm the former with nuclear weapons that haven’t existed for 15 years. …
    • Politics: Schock nukes-to-Taiwan position is ‘irresponsible … Nov 8, 2007 … Aaron Schock’s Support of Giving Nuclear Weapons to Taiwan … we will sell Pershing nuclear missiles to Taiwan for their defense.”

    Well, you get the idea….

  5. Just think how much more convenient it would be if the candidate would just put that information on his site instead of making people hunt of it! I mean, if he isn’t trying to hide his views on these issues, why not put them on his site?

  6. CJ – The broader point is that Schock has held prior political office as well as run a primary campaign in this election. His position on the issues, whether you would agree or disagree, is well established by now.

Ms. Callahan, lacking that “footprint”, would conceivably be more beholden to the voters to publish her position on the issues for lack of the public’s ability to secure it any other way.

  7. Well established as a school board member, or as a representative of Peoria in the State legislature?

Where exactly has Schock “established” a record on a national issue? (I mean other than Republicans are the good guys and Democratsa are yucky)
