Congratulations to the Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers deserved to win the National League Division Series. They simply played better baseball than the Cardinals. They had better pitching, clutch hitting, and much better fielding. These were all things that the Cardinals had about a month ago; I wonder where that team went? After the Cardinals clinched the Central Division title, they just fell apart for some reason and never recovered.

When I found out they would be playing the Dodgers in the NLDS, I was pretty hopeful because, historically, the Cardinals have done very well against the Dodgers. They certainly did well against them in the regular season this year — much better than the Rockies or the Phillies. But surprisingly, it was to the Dodgers that they fell in three straight games.

I’ll forever have nightmares of Holliday missing what should have been the game-ending fly ball in Game 2. A close second to that nightmare is LaRussa putting Rick Ankiel up to bat as a pinch hitter for the final out in Games 1 and 3. Both times, it took just three straight pitches to strike him out. Good call, Tony.

There were a lot of bad plays and missed opportunities, which is too bad, because they really did play well in the regular season, up until the last couple of weeks. Now it’ll be up to the 2010 Cardinals to bring the World Series trophy back to St. Louis. April will be here before we know it.

  1. Wait until next year! (Disclaimer: “Wait until next year!” is a trademark of the Chicago Cubs and can only be used for the Chicago Cubs and not by any other National League Baseball Team.)

Sounds like you’re trying to deflect attention from the real culprit.

On Sep 10 they were 84-57 then lost 5 of their next 6 and 17 of their last 24. Sure, they lost 9 of 10 after they clinched on Sep 26, but the seeds were sown Sep 10.

What happened Sep 10 that likely destroyed the good Karma the Cards were enjoying up till then?

  3. Ok, How can anyone become excited for a team that loses over 67 games a season or plays over 166 (?) games a season. I’ll stick with football. 17 weeks, playoffs, Superbowl, Done.

  4. Dodgers/Yankees World Series anyone? A Peoria(area)-native on each team. Who will root for whom?

This is a humble gesture on your part. As you may recall, I grew up in Burbank, California; merely a five minute drive from Chavez Ravine. My grandpa took me to my first game back in the mid-1970s when Garvey, Lopes, Cey, et al were Dodger greats.

I can’t express how novel it is to sweep both the Cards and Cubs in subsequent years. Seriously, do you know how cool that is?

    It’s very cool.

    Cheers —

BTW, if you’ll recall from the public information sessions, we sized the museum bond issue to require roughly 3.7 million in annual debt service. The public safety sales tax, which the public facilities sales tax mirrors, generates on average 4.1m. This year, we’re trending toward receipts of 4.2m in 2009, down from 4.8m in 2008. We believe we’ve seen the majority of the negative structural shift and there will be sufficient revenue when the time comes to issue.
