  1. Very promising … the retirement of the Campustown TIF! Glad to see that they are putting the leftover monies to use in the 2011 budget cycle.

  2. Marty: It would be interesting to know if the $287,457.54 was patch for specific line items…. The Campustown and Midtown TIF are not contiguous —- so that money would not be able to directly used …. at least that is my current understanding of the TIFs. However, if the Midtown TIF is contiguous with another and then another and then another and so on … it might be possible to move the money from one TIF to another and use the ol’ shell game in that manner.

And I loved (sarcasm) how the Riverfront Dev. Agreement is on it’s 7th incarnation for another two years …..

You brought up a point, If the East village TIF is approved (And it will) it will be contiguous to Midtown Plaza TIF ( it will surround it ) so by what you said the East Village TIF funds could be used to pay for the failed Midtown TIF? If so another shoe dropps as to the East Village TIF cash to bail out Midtown and cash for sewers @ OSF.

  4. Karrie,
the developer needs just a little more time to come with an idea. 13 years. Is this developer getting any funding from the city to come up ideas…if so I want to apply for a job where I can do jack and get paid for it.

and yes the E.B tif will pass. It will fund the OSf expansion and true to form, the project will be pushed aside by some other project and residents will be left holding the bag. Also including in the TIF funds are monies to loan to residents for improvements. Kinda like that tax you pay to the housing service is supposed to go for…but hey, that was passed also without discussion.

  5. these types of questions need to be asked at each and every upcoming forum. Elections are employee evaluations. Since you’re ignored between them, might as well get answers during them.

  6. pw: Still trying to figure out why East Bluff property owners (not OSF) pay a tax of which 2/3 of the amount collected — approximately $41,000 goes to a director and there is supposedly no $ available for home repairs and improvements, which was one of the core reasons for establishing the EBNHS in the first place. Office equipment and new office furniture are nice …. are they all essentials?

Exactly what does the director do for the $41K? If I paid that tax, I would be asking the hard questions and expecting some illuminating answers. On average, over the past twenty years $50K per year means a whopping $1M … what type of bang have EB property owners received for their buck? Their ROI = _______ ??????

And so goes another ride on the merry-go-round ….

  7. This octopus just seems to continue to grow new tenacles. Big ones, little ones, sub little ones and so forth. Its worst than a plate of spaghetti trying to sort out where all the fees, taxes and TIF monies go to and come from. And the monster just keeps growing and no one seems to have the answers or for that matter even wants to know the answers.

  8. The CoP gives handouts for hotels, but can’t fund basic services? The priorities of this council are skewed at best. Those members who voted against the budget have my thanks. Those who continue to ignore the wishes of their constituents will, hopefully, be voted out of office at the next possible opportunity.
