The city of Peoria settled their lawsuit with Mulligans tonight for $163,000 with very little comment. The lawsuit stemmed from the city prohibiting Mulligans from holding wet t-shirt contests. Sandberg mentioned that the amount of money in the settlement would pay for three firefighters — to which someone (couldn’t tell who) added “with their clothes on.” That was a pretty funny line.

It was Mayor Ardis.
Nice mention in the Journal this morning. Where did they pull the quote from?
The terms and reasons for the setlement were fullydiscussed in executive session as required; it was a money saver as the City would have got killed in the lawsuit, just as they will if the “chronic nuisance” ordinance is ever challenged as a civil rights violation. Even Chase could win that one-you can thank the old Council for that law.
Actually, Chase has had his case heard in court numerous times -including his silly accusation that his civil rights were violated- at several different levels, in front of at least four judges on the issue. Each and every Judge sided with the City and the Chronic Nuisance Ordinance . Moreover, the Chronic Nuisance Ordinance is now new and improved, to include code violations as well. You can thank the NEW Council for that.
