Council Roundup: Mulligans settlement

The city of Peoria settled their lawsuit with Mulligans tonight for $163,000 with very little comment.  The lawsuit stemmed from the city prohibiting Mulligans from holding wet t-shirt contests.  Sandberg mentioned that the amount of money in the settlement would pay for three firefighters — to which someone (couldn’t tell who) added “with their clothes on.”  That was a pretty funny line.

  1. The terms and reasons for the setlement were fullydiscussed in executive session as required; it was a money saver as the City would have got killed in the lawsuit, just as they will if the “chronic nuisance” ordinance is ever challenged as a civil rights violation. Even Chase could win that one-you can thank the old Council for that law.

  2. Actually, Chase has had his case heard in court numerous times -including his silly accusation that his civil rights were violated- at several different levels, in front of at least four judges on the issue. Each and every Judge sided with the City and the Chronic Nuisance Ordinance . Moreover, the Chronic Nuisance Ordinance is now new and improved, to include code violations as well. You can thank the NEW Council for that.
