  1. We need a snow thread !!! It is 4:46p and my street is still not plowed !!! West Peoria? clear. Bartonville, clear. My alleyway which was probably subcontracted for, clear.

Why is my street still not plowed? If they had done it this morn the sun would have finished the work without any salt. But no.. this is Peoria.

  2. I thought there was supposed to be GPS units in the trucks so we could go online and watch the progress. What ever happened with that, am I miss remembering?

  3. I believe the trucks do have GPS, but I don’t think it was ever intended for public tracking. Frankly, I dont think it ever should. The only people who need to know the locations are the public works people.

  4. Thanks for clearing that up. When the public works guy was talking about them at the council meeting follwing the Dec 06 storm he said you would be able to watch the progress online, I thought “you” meant the public. A lot of frustration after that storm was all of the chatter about drivers being pulled off their routes to bump the movers and shakers to the head of the line, before the primary snow routes were even done. I thought the idea was by allowing anyone to see what was getting plowed it would kill that sort of situation.

  5. “If they had done it this morn the sun would have finished the work without any salt.” Do you really think they could have gotten EVERY street done in the morning? I think the city has done a fine job with every snow this year. 10000% better than last year.

  6. Well, 10,000 percent ia a bit of an exageration. But the improvement is evident.

You know, I thought living in the Randolph-Roanoke Neighborhood meant I had some clout. My street didn’t get plowered until late yesterday! What gives?

    😉

  7. Billy, don’t you remember last year? 10000% isn’t that far off. Do you think interviews with potential new public works directors went like this. The City says, “I repeat, you will not F up snow removal. You got that?”

  8. Oh, I am sure. But conditions THIS year are no where near the “perfect storm” that happened last year. Plus, there were screw ups aplenty last year, too. The previous PW director handed this sort of winter OK, too.

  9. “Do you really think they could have gotten EVERY street done in the morning?”

The surrounding communities didn’t seem to have a problem getting it all done.

Yes it is better than last year but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

  10. Why does this thread seem like deja-vu. Didn’t this discussion already take place last year with the following snowstorm?

  11. Been here almost 20 years and today is the first time I’ve ever seen heavy snowfall and thunder and lightning at the same time. Friend of mine has been here all his life and he’s 71, says he hasn’t seen this in at least 40 years. Looks like it was a great celebration announcement for today’s Super Bowl. Great show Mother Nature.
