No primary for City Council election

Ten candidates have filed for five at-large Peoria City Council seats. They are:

  • Ryan Spain (incumbent)
  • Chuck Weaver (chairman of Zoning Board of Appeals)
  • Chuck Grayeb (former council member)
  • Eric Turner (incumbent)
  • Jim Stowell (D150 School Board Member)
  • George Azouri (ICC Student)
  • Beth Akeson (former Heart of Peoria Commission member)
  • Andre Williams (local businessman)
  • C. J. Summers (I’ve heard of this guy somewhere before)
  • Gary Sandberg (incumbent)

Since there are no more than ten candidates, there will be no primary election. The primary would have been on February 22, 2011. Having no primary saves the taxpayers the cost of holding an election, which I believe amounts to about $75,000. The candidates will face off in the general election on April 5, 2011.

More details on my candidacy to follow. Stay tuned.

  1. Today’s filers have raised the quality of the candidate field. I am very pleased to see Summers and Akeson on the slate. Yeh!

  2. your common sense and insight are desperately needed in the city council. good luck to you CJ.

  3. Is that listing the order that names will appear on the ballot? If so, you should work with a few other candidates on a publicity campaign to vote “bottom of list”!

  4. I am just sorry I can’t vote in Peoria. I certainly want C.J. to win a seat and hope that his win won’t cause him to shut down this unique and informative blog.

  5. The list here is not the ballot list. There is a lottery today to determine the 1st 3 filers, who showed up at same time to file. The rest will be listed according to time they filed.

I am looking forward to getting all 10 candidates on our CAPtions show
to discuss their issues facing the City of Peoria.
