  1. If you and your family has not taken the opportunity to visit the LST-325 — Please go! The LST-325 is docked at Peoria’s Riverfront. It is an amazing piece of history, a ship that was actually at Omaha Beach — Normandy on the second wave.

The LST-325 will continue to be in Peoria tomorrow, Friday and Saturday too. 0900 – 1700 hours — 9 am to 5 pm.

  2. Karrie is correct. If you will all recall, some time ago, Peoria was in the running to obtain a ship similar to this. Would have made a great floating museum, and spruced up the riverfront. The mayor and city council dropped the ball so hard…it is still bouncing like a bad check from the Museum Partners!

  3. New Voice: This is the same ship. And yes, Peoria dropped the ball — couldn’t make a decision, COP was 6 months to 1 year behind schedule and so Evansville, IN was chosen. Evansville built a $3 million dock and so it goes….

Nevertheless, go to the LST-325. Today, I had the honor of escorting an 86 year old woman who had been a nurse who served in WWII — she shared that she felt young again. An awesome experience.

So, take advantage of this unique opportunity to view world history in our own back yard.

  4. I think Peoria should offer a spot for the LST and then put a bunch of slot machines and card tables on it and make some real cash off it. Since it is parked or docked behind the Taft Homes their motto could be; “You gambled to get here, you might as well gamble while you’re here!”

  5. Of course, if COP had spent $3M on a dock for this ship, Ms. Alms would likely have complained…

  6. Sud O. Nym: Oh how incorrect you are on your analysis and statement. It would have been an investment in history and a one of a kind tourist attraction.

Spending $3 million on the dock would have returned money not like millions which taxpayers have shilled out for a riverplex or ballpark or Gateway Building or Civic Center Expansion or other trinkets …. the LST-325 is unique.

  7. Prego Man! I am extremely surprised you could even spell “…zzzzzzzzzzz…!” Karrie is absolutely correct! Are we the only two who see the connection here? Why did Peoria completely disregard the entire idea of obtaining this ship [a great idea]? Oh no, Peoria has to support this swiftly sinking museum idea. Go figure. Is someone trying to ‘sink’ this city on purpose? Is it possible to buy a life insurance policy on a city? I hope so…cause we are slowly wasting away.

  8. You think THAT’S good, you ought to see what I can do with the “y” and the “m” keys.

  9. New Voice: Hum no vision or no money left or vision but no money left because taxpayer dollars bought worthless trinkets — think Gateway Building, Riverplex, Ball Stadium, Civic Center Expansion, Zoo Expansion … when the real deal shows up —- we have no $ left.
