The candidate forum scheduled for this evening has been cancelled. The candidates received the following e-mail today:

Dear Candidates,

Tonight’s Meet the Candidates scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, 6pm, The Peoria Theater has been Canceled.

Due to lack of confirmation for participation of the audience, we are canceling tonight’s event.

“We respect your time. If we cannot guarantee good attendance, then we are reluctant to continue forward with the event.

We wish you the best in your campaign and look forward to working with you in the future.

  1. Darn. I was going to go to this one. I was under the impression it was a “people show up” event,” rather than something you had to make a reservation to attend.

  2. There will be a forum at Ward Chapel AME Church on Monday the March 21. It is always well attended. Also it is recorded and will be shown on the cable network by the PCCEO.

  3. bummer, i was wanting to go. i must have missed the memo that i was suppose to RSVP someone before event.

  4. I can see that it’s a well organized group. How hard can it be to pull this off. They need to fire the leaders and get a new group of leaders.

  5. Folks, I apologize for the cancellation. I was one of the moderators and a sudden conflict came up at work that I could not get out of. John Sharp and Jenny Keller were also moderators, but apparently the head of the 9/12 Project, who was the sponsor of the event, felt that would not be enough. I disagree with that decision, but it was her call to cancel. And I have no idea how that person felt there would not be enough people in attendance, as the reaction I got from several people I had to notify of the cancellation was there would be a good turnout. I had to call several people I had personally invited as well as all of the candidates and John. Once again, my apologies for the inconvenience.

  6. charlie, nothing could be further from the truth. The truth? Ask Jody Pitcher. I received a scathing email from her to the Steering Committee throwing me under the bus for the cancellation, even though I was not the person who cancelled the event. And according to reports so far, around 25 people showed up for the event, including a local reporter with a camera. Now these would be the people who did not get word the event had been cancelled. I know I personally had to call at least ten people myself who had been invited, and I am certain the candidates made those calls as well.
Poor attendance? Don’t think so. Media and people not notified? Nope, as the evidence shows.
Kind of wondering exactly why the event was cancelled myself.

  7. Only two cures for that, Just, either sail into calmer waters or tighten down the restraints.
