Peoria County Board, District 3: Karrie Alms

I’ve known Karrie Alms for a few years now, and I can tell you this: when she tells you that she believes in transparency in government, following established processes, and giving citizens the opportunity to have meaningful input — she means it. She has worked harder than anyone I know to hold our government leaders accountable. That’s not always easy. It often involves making dozens of calls and requesting a lot of documents through the Freedom of Information Act. Once, it even required taking legal action against the Park District at her own personal expense.

Karrie makes decisions on principle, not out of political expediency. Those principles include common-sense positions such as taking care of needs before wants (a basic-services-first position), keeping our debt load as low as possible, and keeping citizens informed and engaged in the decision-making process. She’s an independent thinker who makes decisions based on facts, wherever those facts may lead. She’s relentless in her search for all the information she needs to make the best decision.

Accessible, responsible, transparent, principled — these are the kinds of attributes I think everyone wants in a representative, and Karrie Alms has them. She is endorsed.

  1. I can’t vote for either County Board Candidate, I live in Tazewell County…can anyone loan me a clothespin for my nose when I go vote for Unes/Smith, Brady/Quinn, or Kirk/Giannoulis?

  2. She’s got my backing and my vote 100%. I’ve known Karrie for several years and find her to be everything CJ says she is. We need a lot more like her in government.

  3. Karrie has my support, if not my vote (I don’t live in her district). If I could vote for her, I would.

  4. CJ: WOW — thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate your support. CJ and Em you will have a great time running for office …. it is awesome to meet so many people who want to make Peoria great. Thank you to everyone for your confidence and support.

  5. I worked and contributed to Karrie. My letter to the editor was printed in the JS which she appreciated. As did Jim Fennell who I recommended.

I recommended Rosenbohm but perhaps he didn’t read the article. Two businnesmen on the board will help considerably as will Karrie asking the hard questions about spending money we don’t have. Karrie has her priorities lined up with the common hard working people.

Randy Stevens is a nice guy and I hear a good father. However, we have 12 Hard Democrats who are STRONG union people on the board now, While all of us support unions, including the new Republican candidates, union power same as big business needs counter balance.

Right now, the county is susceptible to special interest pressure as one Democrat told me before the final museum vote, that he was under too much pressure to vote with me.

Even though he agreed with me that my position was correct.

  6. I can’t vote for her either, but do have a sign in my highly visible yard. In my many dealings with Karrie, we haven’t always agreed, but I have always found her to be honest. F and L…(inside joke) Karrie, best of luck.

  7. Good luck, Karrie! Sorry I can’t vote for you.
I HAVE voted for Jim Fennell. Hope you enjoy serving with him!

  8. Dennis: Why hold your nose? You’ll just be following the will of your long-time CAA masters.

  9. Vonster, I’m going to try to keep calm with this post…No executives no one, NO ONE at PCCEO tells employees HOW to vote. Never has, never will. That would be a serious violation of federal guidelines on their part. Plus, we have many employees that live outside the Peoria area, even as far away as Galesburg. I DO NOT consider my supervisor and the President/CEO my ‘masters’, but abide by their authority just like any employee would, in any job.

I did vote today, and basically it was for the lesser of 2 evils as far as Quinn/Brady, Smith/Unes, and Giannoulus/Kirk races. I voted for both Democratic and Republican candidates in various races. I also voted to raise the NP-MH school property tax increase, because they are hurting thanks to State of Illinois. I also voted for ending the ban on sale of alcohol in Marquette Heights, so that the area behind McD in North Pekin might attract a hotel/restaurant complex that can sell liquor. That’s all I will say on how I voted.

  10. I mean no offense, but if Karrie got swamped running for a county board seat, who really expects her to have a chance running for city council? Again, no offense intended, I don’t know her personally.

  11. I don’t know about that District 150…

Karrie fired the first salvo in her political career… Takes time to develop these things…

  12. People DO pay attention to the (R) and (D) next to the name. Karrie ran as a Republican in an overwhelmingly Democratic district.

  13. I was rooting for you Karrie. I couldn’t vote for you but I was rooting for you. Keep up the good fight.
