Policy session planned for tomorrow night

Tomorrow night, October 2, the Peoria City Council will have a special meeting to discuss the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for projects such as ornamental street lights in the Orchard District. Since it’s during the regular council meting time, I wonder if it will be broadcast on WCBU and/or Insight channel 22. Anyone know?

  1. C.J.,
There are many neighborhoods that went through the normal channel to get put on a list to receive ornamental lighting. They have passed all of the tests and they have been on a list for five to eight years. I feel that if there is a windfall of funds, it should be distributed to neighborhoods on the current list. This would move many neighborhoods ahead by many years. This would be the fair way to distribute these funds. The Orchard district should not be moved ahead of all these other neighborhoods just to try to get votes for BVA.
Other than the lighting issues, there are other organizations that have request in for small amounts that should also be looked at. There are still neighborhoods that do not have sidewalks and these also should come before the Orchard District.
This may be a one time thing so use of the funds should be fair to areas of the city.

  2. Its good to see that the Flora/Ellis, West Bluff NHS crew, still have support at city hall.
