Snow ban

If you don’t want to get a ticket, don’t park your car on a snow route tonight. I got this from the city this evening:

The Snow Parking Ban goes into effect with the accumulation of 2″ of snow.

If you live on a snow route, please find an alternate place to park your car tonight.

MORNING UPDATE (12/7): I received this update from the city this morning:

City crews worked overnight plowing and salting primary and secondary streets. Once completed, crews began plowing and salting residential streets and intersections.

Crews will continue working today, touching up routes where needed.

Citizens may call public works at 494-8850 to report problems.

  1. It’s great for neighborhoods like ours that who homes don’t have driveways or toher off street parking options. The city’s suggestion? Park at Cub Foods and walk the 2 1/2 blocks home through the snow but don’t leave your vwhicle there for longer than 8 hours at a time or they will tow it. How many snow routes does one city need?

  2. Ah yes, suggested to city that Peoria would have alternate day on-street parking, especially for older neighborhoods. Result: Deaf ear syndrome.

  3. Karrie: How are you going to notify people in the older neighborhoods of the alternate days? Pleae don’t say on the internet!

  4. I think places that have alternate days it usually is even numbered days you park on the side of the street with even house numbers, and odd to odd. The switch over happens in the evening, and you park for the next day. So on the 1st of the month you park on the side with odd house numbers until the cut off (5 or 6 pm) then you start parking for tomorrow and move to the even side.

  5. RomanII —- No, not the internet or publish in the newspaper as many in elected office somehow think everyone has that type of access.

How about signage? Yes, an expense —- this is a basic city service. It is impractical to have people walking to park their cars at Cub Foods, etc….. parking in your alley that may not be able to be plowed…… so your car is now off the street and immobilized.

It was this way in Wisconsin and worked like a charm….

Neighborhood associations might also be a means of communication. Landlords would let tenants know.

  6. I’ll give it up to the city. They did a fine job with this snow removal. The roads in town were decent too after the ice yesterday.
