So much to blog about… so little time

Wow, there’s so much news on which to comment, I don’t know where to start! Why don’t you kick things off on this open thread in the meantime?

I’m working on entries for: Parental accountability, Kellar Branch options to come before the city council, Museum funding, District 150 restructuring information, Bradley’s expansion, the upcoming elections, and some other odds and ends, so stay tuned….

  1. Any sincere trail proponents out there that believe:

    (1) The Western Connection is a success.

    (2) A recreational trail through the city will bring great economic development to the area.

    (3) Railroads are a thing of the past and should be allowed to whither on the vine.

    (4) Carver Lumber is the only local lumber company that uses rail service, and it’s not fair they get it and no one else does.

    (5) Peoria’s future is in “clean industry” and such can replace the heavy industrial polluters that now dot the local landscape.

    (6) Firefly Energy batteries will be made in Peoria.

    (7) Growth Cell Two could not be developed for industrial and warehouse use until the western connection was built, and placed in service, and the Kellar Branch abandoned.

    (8) Pioneer Railcorp is evil.

    (9) The Journal Star Editorial is factual, authoritative and something one needs to read each day.

Just thought I’d start something here.

  2. NOT THE MUSEUM AGAIN! Will they please just roll-up and die! Ray LaHood can’t rubber-stamp the museum project [like his continued re-election to Congress]. Vergon is……well…..what ever he is. I am still waiting to hear something from someone who truly knows and understands something about MUSEUMS. Our city elite/do-gooders are getting nervous. This flop of a project could become pie in their faces.
I had to get this started.

  3. I agree with you Scott.

Peoria, poster child for TIF abuse and now the top candidate for poster child for tax credits for our unnecessary museum project.

  4. Cj,
am meeting slowly but surely with several of the at large candidates as they contact me for either access to organizations I am in. It’s a daunting task. I would really like to hear what people have to say about the candidates, perferably good assessments on their abilities. I am trying to look at people on an even playing field meaning it doesn’t matter if they are incumbants or not etc, but rather what skills, talents, experiences etc. a prospective candidate brings to the table. We have another opportunity to shape the council in a positive productive manner. I think we need a variety of skills and specialities to address the many issues before us. We need to expect much from our leaders for when we expect little we recieve it. We need people who will be active in city issues and people with plans on how bring change. We need people who will actively collaberate with all our communities resources and be inclusive in processes of change because that method builds sustainability and investment. We need some people with a vision of how we should be combined with those grounded in how to achieve the visions. I think we can pick five out of the 14 to do this in combination with the current and future district council members and the mayor, but need to share information on candidates so we all can be better educated.

  5. Paul: Are there any forums prior to the primary which would showcase all the candidates at the same time?

  6. Paul Wilkinson you are right on track. Its getting all of the candidates regardless of district to think together for what is best for Peoria. Stop the me me attitude and collaborate. There is so much talent and resources here for our use right now, its just getting the powers that be to use it in the right direction for the betterment of the entire community.

  7. Scott Creedy we are working towards a train from Peoria to Chicago in the near future. Hang in there.
