Someone knows I love irony

In the mail yesterday, I received a plain envelope with my name (misspelled) and address on it, and no return address. Inside was a single photocopy of a Leonard Pitts article from the paper — an article in which he criticizes anonymous commenters on newspaper sites and blogs. So some anonymous person is trying to tell me I shouldn’t allow people to comment anonymously… I guess. Ha ha!

  1. No worries!

Leonard Pitts IS NOT his real name either!!

    It’s really Diane Vespa.

  2. we’ve been over this ground before, Pitts is just wrong (as usual). Even Ben Franklin made use of the right to comment anonymously.

  3. I blogged about it on ‘Word’ on the Web, but I didn’t send you the letter (I linked to the column on the site).
I do find it kind of funny, though.

    Nice start for our Cardinals!

  4. L. Pitts also said that facts are the building blocks of the truth. Facts are no less valid when presented anonymously. Bullies hate when they don’t know who to retaliate against.

  5. TR64: Good point. I thing the people to rail against anonymous comments really underestimate the ability of the average news consumer to discern bullcrap from the valid commentary. The MSM doesn’t want to risk THAT.

  6. Misspelled?
    Could be anybody.
If your name had been spelled correctly, though, you could immediately have ruled out Bill.

  7. Do you think public bodies that complain against anonymous “information” sources also abhor the generosity of anonymous “financial” sources? Does D150 accept anonymous donations? just wondering.

  8. Anonymous comments or letters making claims that are not backed up by facts or are making personal attacks on the blogger are quite different from the generosity of people making anonymous financial contributions.

Most bloggers do not have research staffs so they sometimes depend on “ususally reliable” sources.

  9. Merle,

Fortunately, most of the people who blog on this site use my services as a ‘researcher for hire.’

Reliable sources? I am simply the best. A current list of my paying clients: Precinct Committeeman, 11Bravo, David P. Jordan, and the Bartonville Young Republicans.
I also do work for Circus-Midgets Union – Local 1567.
