Tomorrow’s Markley & Luciano Show should be interesting (UPDATED)

lucianoJournal Star columnist Phil Luciano was arrested for an alleged altercation at a local bar.

I wonder if someone insulted his dancing.

UPDATE: 1470 WMBD announced that Jamie and Phil are taking a couple of days off and that the show is scheduled to return Wednesday, May 20. The radio station has no official comment on Phil’s arrest, according to a statement from JMP Media President Mike Wild read by the show’s producer Hannah Shea.

  1. Another Morton resident causing trouble in Peoria. Jeesh can’t they keep their trouble makers in Morton.

  2. Condolences to Phil, or should we say congratulations? He was probably doing research for a column. Look for an inside account of how the police operate.
I wish he had been arrested protesting Karl Rove, but this is second best.

  3. He shouldn’t have been at The Owl’s Nest… ever since Tartan closed, he has been a lost child… sigh…

  4. JS took down the comments section after the story about him. He comments on everyone elses bad luck, we should get to comment on his.
I didn’t know they let guys like him live in Morton.

  5. Dear FACTSPLEASE,

The Journal Star changed their policy a few months ago. They don’t allow comments on any crime story. I think it was to keep the number of racist comments to a minimum. I noticed this change a few weeks ago when I opened the article about the police officer who ran over that 2 year old. No comments there, and I’ve noticed since that there is rarely a comment section for a crime story (there sometimes is a comment section for follow-up stories). I don’t know if this is an official policy, or if it was ever announced, but it isn’t just the Luciano article.

Could someone please tell Billy the same thing? I can’t see to get his site loaded and he had a similar problem w/ the JS.

  6. I believe it NOW. It has to be a very new, unannounced policy. It is also a policy I disagree with. Why are CRIME stories out of reach of comments? Racism from commenters is a lousy escuse.

  7. 1:15am..I’ll bet he was going to drive back to Morton. Was he picked up in his car or while walking?

  8. I had the same thought, but according to a deleted comment left on the PJStar’s website by someone who claimed to be a witness to the entire event… they picked him up a few blocks away… walking. Where he was walking to, I have no idea.

I predict the Markley & Luciano show will be done, which is too bad because I quite enjoyed it.

  9. They say something good comes out of bad situations. If they take that show off, it will prove true once again. They sound like a couple of brainless teenagers trying to act grown up.(apologies to brainless teenagers).

  10. Well, Billy, the policy — if it is official — has been in place for a few months, at least. (I don’t work for the JS.) You are free to dislike the policy. That and $1.85 won’t get you a cup of coffee. I find it rich, however, that you would have a problem with comment moderation considering that you:

    1. Have closed comments on some posts.
    2. Limited topics (Schock).
    3. Banned folks.

Which is, of course, your right. As it is the JS’ right. You don’t own their company. And you don’t have to sift through thousands of comments a day/week, weeding out the profanity and outright racism. I think they’ve adopted a good policy. How is the news advanced by letting some jackass make a comment about who shot whom where?

  11. The show is lame and routinely copies stories from Chicago’s WLS (Am-890) Roe Conn show of the previous day. They even copied the opening theme song! At least Roe Conn recently changed his to a new one.

  12. I would rather hear someone like Greg and Dan in the afternoon.
Markley is ok but Phil is such the redneck.

  13. You don’t have to listen the show, just go to fark.com. Every story I heard on the show sounded like it was pulled strait from that website.

  14. Sounds like a wonderful sound-fest – sorry I missed it! Gee, I could have heard all about such enticing topics as best hair dyes for men; how to cheat on your wife overtly; how to say you are crazy about your kid, then go around town raising hell in the early morning hours; how to pay off the city so you only owe around $100 bail after what are really two felony counts, discounted as misdemeanors; and soo much more I could have learned from this wonderful person, whom I really liked but who has been running raw for too long….He still deserves what every other felonious person in this town gets—-Heavy-duty bail, sojourn in jail, and felony counts not misdemeanors for hitting a woman in the head, for God’s sake….

  15. MAZR: The age of majority. Unfortunately, that seems to be about 45 these days.

  16. Everyone is entitled to a few drinks and a little fun-the show is really lame and will be taken off shortly. But that has nothing to do with Phils’ rampage.

  17. Sud O. Nym: You are completely full of crap.

Of course, I close comments on some posts. Individual posts. Not an entire class or category of posts. I do so AFTER the tone of the comments turn hostile.

And my limiting topics, to I allow people to libel or slander? No.

I ban spammers and trolls. Most of those I have banned have contacted me and are unbanned.

Why not address these concerns you have on MY site instead of hijacking C.J.’s blog?

  18. wacko… what to replace it with? Does Roger Ailes have another right wing neo-con to inflict upon us?

I think I’ll miss the sophomoric “Manshow” bathroom humor… CANONBALL!!!!! Oy Vey!

  19. Billy, I am full of crap. But so are you, so we can at least spot it in others.

I haven’t hijacked CJ’s blog — I wrote two posts. I wrote the first one because, surprise!, your website was down when I had time to write yesterday (in all fairness, it could have been on my end). I wrote the second one here because you made your comment here.

I point out the limitations you put on your blog to demonstrate that we all have a right to moderate that which we own. You make your choices, the JS makes theirs. You can disagree with their policy, and you can even demand it changes, but that doesn’t mean they have to do it.

The PJS is a capitalist enterprise (wait for KCDAD) and they want to make money. They probably don’t want to hire 2 extra staffers just to moderate comments. I once had a conversation with Jerry Smith, the PJS’ (former?) web editor. He said that he spent most of his day moderating comments, and checked once before bed and once when he woke up. It is a terrible use of resources. So the PJS just decided to stop allowing comments on crimes. Pretty easy decision, if you ask me (but it wasn’t my decision to make). They get hundreds of comments a day, and the last job I would want is trying to weed out the trash.

While I like the PJS comment ability, unlike some of the newsier blogs, I have rarely seen their comments advance the ball. It is mostly a bunch of noise, much of from racists and demagogues.

  20. If anyone cares, I was curious why the Looch was always hanging out in West Peoria. My West Peoria peeps informed me that he no longer lives in Morton, he lives in West Peoria which explains his choice of nightspots.

Also was told that the owner of the Owl’s Nest has instructed all of his employees to not answer anything about the fight.
