Vote!

It’s election day. I hope you’ll all get out and participate in government by voting. Whenever people want to know what we can do about what’s happening in Washington or Springfield or right here in Peoria, I always say the biggest thing we can do is elect good leaders. Here’s hoping you find a few leaders like that on the ballot today.

  1. VOTE, BUT VOTE INTELLIGENTLY. If you don’t know who you are voting for, leave it blank! Yes, they will tell you you left blanks, you say, “Yes, I did”. You have the right to do that. If you haven’t informed yourself at all, stay home! An uninformed vote is worse than no vote at all.

  2. You said you hoped we found a few good leaders on the ballot today. Well you are right. There are a “few” good leaders. Most are not worth the paper to write their names on. So many of them are spending so much time and money battling each other instead of actually working on our community problems. Someday maybe they will outlaw mud slinging during election periods. But that will never happen because we have a right to free speech. Just wish they would clean up that free speech and concentrate only on the issues. We so desperately need real true citizens to fix things rather than just people who want to say “look at me, I got elected and now you have to bow to me”. Yes, please vote, but vote wisely. Just because they are the only name on the ballot in that particular area doesn’t mean they are the best.

  3. SD: Definition of “good leader”: Someone who says he/she will take us where we already want to go, and who promises the trip won’t cost us anything.

  4. Does it really matter they ALL lie. They tell you what you want to hear and after they get in office they change there plans.

  5. With the rare exception of the “honest” politician that is serving for the public good (there are a few — look at current Kansas Governor who was appointed after Sebalius appointed to cabinet by Obama). He is not running for re-election and has accomplished remarkable progress in a bi-partisan manner. It’s the need to counter every action with the “what does this mean for my election / reelection” that makes otherwise good people make poor choices.

With all the rest, you just need to figure out who is lying the least and vote for him/her.
