Fire Chief to be acting City Manager

Official press release from the City of Peoria:

The Peoria City Council has accepted the resignation of City Manager Scott Moore, effective today.

Peoria Fire Chief Kent Tomblin will serve as Acting City Manager until December 8. The Council will then name an Interim City Manager to serve until a permanent City Manager can be hired.

Mayor Jim Ardis said, “after numerous discussions, the Council and Mr. Moore reached the decision that it would be in the best interest of the City, and our staff, if Mr. Moore were to step down. He will be submitting his resignation to me today.”

Mr. Moore will receive a 6-month severance package of $82,500. We wish Scott well in his future endeavors.

  1. So the fire chief has time to do both jobs? Do we even need a city manager if the chief has time to do both time consuming jobs?

  2. The fire chief doesn’t have the time, but somebody needs to step into the job for a couple of weeks till an interim manager is named.

  3. by Vonster.

Why? Why are you bringing race into it Vonster? I suppose you want to call in Don Jackson. You people need to quit it always trying to make everything about race.

  4. “but somebody needs to step into the job for a couple of weeks till ”
The city council can cram through their plans before a real city manager is put back in the office.

Chris Setti, start writing your letter turning down the position.

Like the city council hasn’t been planning this for awhile,… right.

And why can’t the press just report the truth: City council and the mayor told him to resign or be fired?

  5. Interesting that Chief Tomblin owns a house in the city but doesn’t live there. He still lives in Dunlap and checks on his Peoria house everyday. It would be nice if he lived in the Peoria house.

  6. Sharon: I was just asking a question based on previous experience. Cynical? Yes. Realistic? Yes.

  7. Vonster, the only problem with basing your opinion on previous experience is that you don’t know anything about Scott Moore and how he thinks or how he has behaved in the past. He is an individual, not a representative of a group. Others may or may not speak for him whether he asks for their “help” or not, but so far that has not happened.

I believe the statement was made that Moore didn’t get financial information to the council fast enough. As long as they open the door that far, I wish they had the courtesy to open it all the way to tell us what information was needed so that we and/or others in the know could judge whether or not the information was that readily available, etc.

  8. given how much he was paid; how much his contract was worth; and how little he has done – i blame no one but our city council and their abdication of responsibility to consultants.

  9. name me anything he has done, Charlie? I can think of nothing. Police and Fire negotiations are still around. He moved in, made some reports (likely unpopular) and is now gone. Wonder what his resume lists as his achievements for this job…

  10. yes. exactly. I can find very little he has accomplished. can you? If i can find none and you can name none, by what better standard would you have him be judged? do you have access to some secret file the rest of us do not?
i don’t say nothing without looking harder than an average taxpayer, but i suppose i am not a city council member or on city staff, so i cannot say i have inside information. actually, i believe he was fired for unpopular reports, for an inability to quickly grasp the political landscape, for not sucking up to the proper people. but when someone enters an organization and does not play by its rules, the organization will remove the person quickly and is set up to make the non-conformer appear the problem and perpetuate itself and its usual ways (regardless of its worth).
    is that better?

  11. The point is, you don’t have a clue whether he was a non-conformer, non-performer, or both. So why persist with your populist nonsense?
