  1. Scott A: Fair enough. I will contact you via this site with information requested to continue our discussion. I apologize if I somehow implied that disagreement was coupled like a train car with being open and transparent. I did not intend to do so.

Discussing the issues is vital to the healthy functioning of our community.

I truly believe that our community could become better if we had more prolonged dialogue about issues and talked about the issues and solutions and then took action rather than avoiding the tough discussions and decisions. It does take a plan and time — people feeling safe to participate. Sometimes the blog discussions get rough and tumble and personal disclosure of addresses and such is really not necessary.

Our most unutilized resource in our community is our people and their talents.

So, I will remember your talents and if I think of extending a ‘lifeline’ request — just let me know if you would be willing to help in that area. No worries. No pressure. No commitment. Just a yeah or a nay.

    Sound okay?

We are all in this community together. I agree with kcdad: I love life and the journey of life and as I get older, I love it even more.

  2. You know what, Karrie. After going through our back and forth here, seeing the tone of your voice change, I will be happy to give you my all my contact information.

    If

    1. You apologize publicly (here is fine) for this implication (you have to be a good friend to get stuff from these men, that they were not open and transparent):

“Perhaps now that this issue has been voted up to be a museum, Dr. Scott and Dr. Lewer will make their that information could be shared publicly. Since you are a good friend of one of them, perhaps you can get a copy of that information and share it with all of us.

The challenge always remains the same —- open, inclusive and transparent process. Scarcity vs. abundance mentality. That would make for true progress in Peoria.”

    2. Acknowledge you were wrong here, in understanding and in implication:

“Perhaps Dr. Scott and Dr. Lewer were not contacted by any critical economist because Dr. Scott and Dr. Lewer would not share the spreadsheet when asked on Feb. 4, 2009.”

That was an implication. You know that, Karrie.

    3. And if you promise to mention this when you run for city council:

“Do people forget to keep appointments, or to fulfill requests or simply just forget with the many requests of life to get all the things done on their to do list? Yes. There is no maliciousness implied on my part. It just is a factor of being human and life — neither groups followed up.”

That you didn’t follow up on this so-important-to-you issue, because you are human.

  3. Scott A: You can infere and implicate away. Again, put me in the public stocks in the town square. When I receive the information from Dr. Scott and Dr. Lewer — I will post it for all to read. Until then …..

  4. Karrie, you are missing the point. I’m being completely straghtforward here.

You know those were implications. And I’d love to see you apologize for them before you run for city council.

  5. That’s complete BS Scott, the burden of proof ( and in turn the burden of producing the data) is on Dr. Scott and Dr. Lewer. Not Karrie and the two professors would expect no less of any student producing a similar report in one of their classes. If they were interested in completely addressing the criticism of their report they would have already posted the data on the internet or some other public domain.

  6. I’m with 11Bravo… it’s up to Dr. Scott and Dr. Lewer to present a solid case and defend it not the other way around.

  7. Jane,
I agree with the woulda, coulda, shoulda sentiment. I know I ponied up $100 in support as I believed in the cause. We didn’t have the deep pockets that the BTB group did by a long shot! Our side lost and yes, I regret it. I feel the vast majority of those 15,000+ who voted yes were duped. OTOH for the nearly 70% of registered voters who didn’t even bother to get off their sorry butts to vote one way or the other then they deserve every tax they have to pay and pay and pay over the next 20 years. And lastly – I want to acknowledge the efforts of Karrie Alms, who has been the major player in the resistance/education effort. She has had the broad shoulders and backbone that makes her an admirable citizen in my book!

  8. I admire Ms. Alams tenacity as well. It’s hard to go up against deep pockets such as Diane Vespa. Who, really, only have a vested interest in the community so long as it sells houses.

  9. Scott,

Lakeview and everyone involved with this museum project, including the BU professors, have been operating from behind a smoke screen since this project began years ago. When Karrie’s Army went on the offensive, PRM almost went belly-up.

    400 lousy votes?!?!?

  10. Jane the same could be said for you based on your profession, that was below the belt and unnecessary.

  11. Karrie,

This from your Journal Star Post – concerning Schock’s earmark requests….

Peoria Riverfront Museum in Peoria, Illinois: $750,000
    Lakeview Museum Construction: $500,000

    $500,000 Lakeview Museum construction? WHAT???

  12. NV:
Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act:

Peoria Riverfront Museum in Peoria, Illinois: $750,000

The funding would be used to design and install sustainable design/green architecture aspects in a new museum facility. This would include energy-efficient mechanical systems, recycled materials, energy-use monitoring equipment, a water-filtering bioswale, bicycle racks and a hands-on computer kiosk that helps visitors understand building energy use and green design.

The entity to receive funding for this project is Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences, 1125 W. Lake Avenue, Peoria, IL 61614.

To plan and construct a new building

Washington Street in Peoria, Illinois: $1.0 million

The funding would be used to create safer pedestrian routes and a more livable community in order to spur economic development in a former warehouse district in Peoria. I certify that I have no financial interest in this project.

It is a treat to read! The Park District is looking to fulfill some projects too!

Just amazing that federal legislators are looking for money for projects which do not seem to have been discussed in a public forum so the citizens know what the real priorities are for our fair city.

I was glad to see a request for sewer repairs for Peoria and surrounding cities.

without malice and Jane: Thank you for your support!

The entity to receive funding for this project is City of Peoria, located at 419 Fulton Street, Peoria, IL 61602.
