  1. Wow… 90% is UNHEARD of. Even given the opponent and his history I still thought that he’d at least break 20%. But… WOW…

  2. Jim Ardis is one of the best Mayor’s Peoria, you might not agree with him , but is the very best. He has never lost his touch with the people … WOOOO, HOOO. 4 more yrs with great leadership..

  3. Best Mayor… what criteria are you using… he swings a mean gavel? He is a figurehead… what makes him qualitatively different than any other Mayor we have ever had since we entered into this city manager system?
    Let’s give him a raise!

  4. Jim Ardis is not a phony not Maloof and Ransberg; he does what he believes is best for the City, not his own pocketbook. He is a man who you can actually reach out to and talk with.

  5. Was the Fondulac Library the only other referendum that passed? Well, I mean other than the stupid museum one.
    Tazewell County sales
    tax referendum
    Yes 5483 (31.8%)
    ?No 11779 (63.3%)

    Washington Community High School referendum
    Yes 1588 (36.7%)
    ?No 2737 (63.3%)
    18 of 18 precincts

    Rather soundly defeated, these.

  6. wacko… the position of Mayor of Peoria is phony. His entire purpose is to preside over the city council meetings … that is it. Everything else is window dressing. The City Manager runs the city.

  7. Not so, big boy. This Mayor moves the agenda, the Manager is an errand boy for the council. This a strong Mayor and we had better enjoy him while we have him.

  8. A “strong mayor?”

    On crime: let us pray.

On deteriorating neighborhoods: let us pick up litter.

His leadership has done remarkable things for Peoria.

And, don’t forget, he is such a “nice guy.”

  9. Under the city manager form of government, think of it as a business. The mayor is the CEO. He, along with the council, which is the board of directors, set policy. The city manager is the COO. He enforces the policy of the mayor and council.

Basically, the mayor and council tells the manager what they want done and it is the manager’s job to carry out their orders.

You didn’t mention that after the 40 days of prayer, the murder rate in Peoria dropped drastically from the year previously. Don’t knock prayer, it works miracles.

  10. Think of it as a puppet show, and the mayor is the puppet, the city manager the puppeteer.

    FORTY DAYS OF PRAYER:
    Offense 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006
    Murder, 14 9 7 14 14 17

Let’s presume that no one prayed before 2001 and then the 40 days program woke God up to our horrendous crime rate. Are you suggesting that God intervened for two years and then decided that was enough?

How come God didn’t reduce the property crimes during that same period?

And why do we need a Sheriff and Police Chief anyway?

  11. kcdad, I think you need to read more about the city manager form of government. The City Manager only does what the mayor and council instruct him to do.

  12. And the Mayor is supposed to do only what the City Council tells him to do, and the City Council is supposed to do what the people tell them to do… Am I getting this right? And the people do what the media tells them to do…???
